(3) S 216-010Visually examine the oxygen mask hoses and oxygen mask bags for the presence of liquid contaminants on the inside and outside surfaces.
NOTE:____ A liquid substance on the inside and outside surfaces may indicate the diffusion of phthalate plasticizer, a substance used to make the material flexible over the normal operating temperature range. The plasticizer can diffuse out of the material due to aging, thermal effects, and humidity.
(a) If there are liquid contaminants found, replace the oxygen mask assembly (AMM 35-22-31/401).
(4) S 216-011Carefully examine the hose on the passenger oxygen mask. (a) Make sure it is soft and flexible. (b) Examine the color on the hose.
NOTE:____ A change in the color of the hose occurs with time. This is not a satisfactory cause to replace the hose.
(5) S 906-012Replace the hose if it is not in satisfactory condition (AMM 35-22-31/401).
(6) S 226-013Pull on each hose at a point near the bayonet fitting with a force of 18 pounds. (a) If the hose comes off when you pull on it, replace the mask (AMM 35-22-31/401).
(7) S 866-014Put the masks back in the oxygen box (AMM 35-22-31/401).

A. General
(1) You must clean and use disinfectant on the respiratory equipment after each use. The oxygen mask facepieces are made of material that can be cleaned and disinfected with one operation. You will mix a solution that can clean and disinfect in one operation.
B. Consumable Materials
(1)
The detergent disinfectant product that is commercially available (use one of these):
(a)
G02198 Airwick Antimicrobial Topical Gel
(b)
G02197 West Wescodyne
(c)
G02199 Lysol Brand Disinfectant (EPA Registration Number 675-19)
(d)
B00130 Isopropyl alcohol
(2)
G00034 Absorbent cheesecloth
(3)
G00116 Sponge applicator (optional)
C. Access
(1) Location Zone

D. Clean the Oxygen Mask Facepiece

(1)
Mix a solution of the detergent disinfectant product with warm water. (Use the dilution instructions found on the product label.)

Apply the solution to the facepiece with the absorbent cheesecloth or the sponge applicator.
(3)
Flush the facepiece with clear, warm water.
(4)
Let the facepiece dry with air, or dry the facepiece with a cloth.
(5)
Assemble and install the facepiece.
