 FLIGHT CREW OXYGEN SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING

 1.  General_______
 A.  The following trouble shooting procedures are based on performance of an operational test and are presented in tree-type format to aid in rapid fault isolation. The test steps are connected to show the OK condition path. When all steps in the OK condition path check out, the system is operable.
 B.  When a test step does not check out, follow the NOT OK line to the box containing the trouble symptom. Turn to the procedure indicated and continue to follow a single line by analyzing the results of each test step until the required corrective ation is determined. Perform the specified corrective action, then repeat the step at which the failure was encountered and complete test to check out the system.
 C.  All trouble shooting procedures are based on the assumption that wiring is OK and that electrical power is available. If the corrective action in the procedure does not correct the problem, check wiring using the wiring diagram.
 D.  Oxygen System Leak Detection Compound shall be used to locate leaks (Ref 20-30-51).
 E.  Loss of pressure may be due to leakage in the system lines or component. Temperature change may cause an apparent loss of pressure without actual leakage. Normal cylinder servicing pressure is 1850 psi at 70°F. Refer to the Temperature Correction Chart, Fig. 106 for variations.
 F.  Flow to mask/regulators can be interrupted by kinks or restrictions in mask stowage box inlet and/or outlet flexible lines. Loose foam padding inside oxygen face masks can restrict flow to the crewmembers.
 WARNING: VALVES MUST BE OPENED SLOWLY OR EXCESSIVE TEMPERATURES MAY RESULT.

 G.  When opening oxygen cylinder shutoff valves during trouble shooting procedure, open them slowly to avoid excessive temperatures.
 H.  Prior to performing maintenance, review oxygen system safety precautions and general maintenance instructions outlined in 35-00-00, MP.
 I.  Observe all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS contained in 35-12-00, A/T.
 2.  Equipment and Materials_______________________
 A.  Pressure Gage, 0 to 2000 psi with accuracy of |2%, graduations not more than 100 psi apart, and a dial diameter of not less than 4 inches.

 3. Prepare for Trouble Shooting

 A. Check that OXYGEN SYSTEM IND circuit breaker on P18 panel is closed.
 B. Check that crew oxygen cylinder shutoff valve is opened.
 C. Check that oxygen cylinder indicates dispatch requirement.
 D. Apply electrical power (Ref 24-22-00, MP).
