Section 71-02 % Power Plant - Lycoming O-360-A4M Engine
1. General
This Chapter tells you about the power plant installed in the DA 40 F. It tells you about the components that make the power plant. It also tells you how to remove/install the power plant.
For data on the engine test after installation refer to the Lycoming Operator's Manual for the O-360-A4M engine. Refer to the DA 40 F Airplane Flight Manual for engine start/stop procedures.

) Chapter 73 Engine fuel and control. Refer to the Lycoming Operator's Manual for data on the fuel carburetor system.

Note: Equipment which is certified for installation in the DA 40 F is listed in Section 6.5 of the Airplane Flight Manual. Such equipment may be installed in accordance with the Airplane Maintenance Manual.
Any equipment which is not listed in Section 6.5 of the Airplane Flight Manual is called "Additional Equipment". The installation of Additional Equipment is a modification which must be handled in accordance with national regulations or a Service Bulletin.

2. Description and Operation
The DA 40 F has a Lycoming 4-cylinder, horizontally opposed, direct drive engine. The engine type is O-360-A4M. The engine has a wet sump oil system. The O-360-A4M is air cooled and has a carburetor system. It has an electric starter and Slick magnetos. It also has a SlickSTART magneto booster system.
