WARNING: MAKE THE ENGINE IS SAFE BEFORE YOU DO ANY WORK ON THE OIL SYSTEM. IF THE ENGINE STARTS THE PROPELLER CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH.
(1) Make sure that the engine is safe: S Set the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch to OFF. S Set the ENGINE MASTER switch to OFF. S Set the power lever to IDLE.
(2) Remove the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-11.
(3) Release the flexible hose from the connection at the inboard end of the oil radiator. Use a suitable container to catch the oil. Put caps on the open connections.
(4) Release the flexible hose from the connection at the outboard end of the oil radiator. Use a suitable container to catch the oil. Put caps on the open connections.
(5) Remove the oil radiator: S Release the nuts, washers and bolts which attach the top of the oil radiator to the engine-mounting-frame. S Move the oil radiator clear of the airplane. Hold the oil radiator!

Detail Steps/Work Items Key Items/References
(1) Install 90° fittings at the inlet and outlet ports of the radiator. Only on a new oil radiator.
(2) Put the oil radiator in position in the airplane.
(3) Install the bolts, washers and nuts which attach the oil radiator to the engine-mounting-frame.
(4) Connect the flexible hose to the connection at the inboard end of the oil radiator. Remove the blanking caps.
(5) Connect the flexible hose to the connection at the outboard end of the oil radiator. Remove the blanking caps.
(6) Install the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-11.
(7) Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Refer to Section 12-10.
(8) Do an engine ground run-up. Monitor the oil temperature. Look specially for oil leaks. The oil temperature indicator must show the relevant oil temperature. Refer to the DA 40 Airplane Flight Manual.
(9) Stop the engine.
(10) Do a test for oil leaks: S Remove the engine cowlings. S Look for oil leaks, specially around the connections to the oil radiator. S Install the engine cowlings. Refer to Section 71-11. Refer to Section 71-11.
