% A START warning light on the annunciator panel comes ON when there is power to the starter. If this % light stays on after the engine has started, set the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch and the ENGINE % MASTER switch to OFF.
% If necessary during starting, the engine control unit operates the glow plugs to heat intake air for the % engine.

% Trouble-Shooting % 1. General
% The table below lists the defects you could have with the starting system. If you have the trouble % detailed in the Trouble column read across to the Possible Cause column. Then do the repair given % in the Repair column.
% WARNING: DO NOT ALLOW PERSONS TO ENTER THE DANGER AREA OF THE % PROPELLER. THE PROPELLER MAY TURN AND CAUSE INJURY TO % PERSONS.
% WARNING: DISCONNECT AND ISOLATE THE STARTER POWER CABLE BEFORE % DOING TESTS IN THIS SECTION. THE ENGINE MAY START AND % CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

Trouble  Possible Cause  Repair 
The starter does not operate when the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch is set to START and the ENGINE MASTER switch is set to ON.  The START circuit-breaker is not set. The battery is discharged. The ELECTRIC MASTER key switch is defective. The ENGINE MASTER switch is defective. The starter relay is defective. Starter defective. Defective cable.  Set the START circuit-breaker. Replace/Recharge the battery. Replace the ELECTRIC MASTER key switch. Replace the ENGINE MASTER switch. Starter relay on starter motor: Refer to the engine manufacturer. Starter relay in relay junction box: Replace. Refer to the engine manufacturer. Do a test of the electrical cables. Refer to Chapter 92 for the wiring diagrams. Repair/Replace the defective cable. Refer to Section 71-51 for repair limits of the engine harness.

The starter Power-On light stays on after the key is released from the START position.  The starter relay is defective. The starter solenoid is defective.  Starter relay on starter motor: Refer to the engine manufacturer. Starter relay in relay junction box: Replace. Refer to the engine manufacturer. 
Difficult cold starting.  Glow relay defective. Glow plugs worn.  Replace the glow relay. Replace the glow plugs. Refer to the engine manufacturer.
