Prepare To Do a Check of the Latch Band (Fig. 601)

Open the fan cowl panels (AMM 71-11-04/201).

Examine the latch ring for wear or damage.
(a)
Examine the latch for cracks. 1) Cracks in the latch ring are not permitted.
(b)
Examine the flange for cracks.
1) If the wear or damage is more than the limits, repair the flange (SRM 54-30-90).
(c)
Look for cracks or damage around the bolt holes.
1) If the crack or damage is more than the limits, repair the hole (SRM 54-30-90).
(d)
Look for scratches, dents or other damage on the lower latch handles. 1) If the damage is more than the limits, repair the latch
handles (SRM 54-30-90).

NOTE: The thrust reverser must be fully closed and latched.

(a) The top latch must open and clear the U-bolt on the fan case.
1) Adjust the latch ring if it is necessary (AMM 78-31-02/501).
