Apply the 0.20-inch thick clay to the two top inner wall compression pads (shim 1 and 5 locations) for the two thrust reverser halves.
(d)
Apply the 0.20-inch thick clay to the top inner wall
compression pads (shim 3 and 16 locations).
(e)
Apply the 0.20-inch thick clay to the three lower inner wall compression pads (shim 17 and 29 locations) on the left thrust reverser half.
(f)
Apply the 0.20-inch thick clay to the lower compression pad (shim 7 location) on the right thrust reverser half.

(3) Apply the petroleum jelly as a parting agent with the steps that follow:
(a)
Where the clay on the top compression pads touches the strut.
(b)
Where the clay on the lower compression pads touch on the opposite thrust reverser half.
(c)
Where the clay on the latch pads touch on the opposite thrust reverser half.

(4) Apply the petroleum jelly to lubricate the inner engine vee-groove.
NOTE: The lubricant will make it easier to install the vee-blade in

the vee-groove and to cause the clay to come out.
(a) Apply the clay into the inner vee-groove at the 1,3,5,7,9, and the 11 o'clock posistions.

Clean the fire seals for the thrust reverser and the two sides of the strut with the naptha.

Apply the transfer dye or petroleum jelly to the strut along the area where the fire seal touches, approximately one inch in width and very thin.

(7) Close the thrust reverser (AMM 78-31-00/201).
(a) Make sure the vee-blade engages the vee-groove on the fan case.

Push the thrust reverser halves together until you can engage the lower four latches on the mating bolt.

Install the latch band (AMM 78-31-02/401).

Close all latches on the thrust reverser.
(a) Start at the latch band and go to the rear with the tension
latches.
