(a) Sand the edges smooth and flush with the isulation with 240 grit abrasive, ANSI B 74.18.

(b) Remove all loose material with a brush or a clean cloth, BMS15-5.
NOTE:____ Do not use solvents.
(c) Prepare one of these materials for the repair: 1) BMS10-102, Type 1, class 2 with the instructions to mix the insulation. 2) BMS10-102, Type II topcoat with Catalyst B.
NOTE:____ Add silica fibers to this topcoat.
3) RTV 106 (BAC 5010, Type 74).
NOTE:____ This is a ready to use, one part silicone adhesive/sealant.
(d) (e) Fill the rework area with mixed uncured insulation, topcoat or the silicone adhesive/sealant with a spatula, trowel or putty knife. 1) Make the material into a smooth, uniform layer. 2) Do not trap air pockets in the material.Cure the materials as follows: 1) If insulation was used as the repair material, do these steps: a) Cure the insulation for 1 hour at 70-85 degrees F (21-29 degrees C), followed immediately by 6 hours at 120-150 degrees F (49-66 dergees C).
NOTE:____ The insulation can be cured at room temperature of 70-85 degrees F (21-29 degrees C) for 24 hours, but this is not the recommended method. Do not cure the insulation at room temperatures lower than 70 degrees F (21 degrees C) because it may not have the correct physical properties.
b) Apply topcoat to the insulation with a clean paint brush.
NOTE:____ The paint brush will provide the required thickness of 0.003-0.005 inch (0.076-0.127 mm).
2) If the topcoat with silicone fibers was used as the repair material, the topcoat work life and cure time depends on the catalyst concentration that was used.

3) If the silcone adhesive/sealant was used, it will cure in 24 hours.
NOTE:____This material releases acetic acid as it cures. The smell of acetic acid will go away when the material is fully cured. This material cures because it reacts with the moisture in the air. Do not cover this material.
a) Do not apply the sealant more than 0.25 inch (6.25 mm) thick.
L. Put the airplane back in its usual condidtion.
