Completely remove damaged coating down to the substrate.

Apply and cure DC-1200 primer.


 (a)  Clean and mask all surfaces which will be covered by the insulative coating.

(b)  Apply a light uniform coating of DC-1200 primer.
 NOTE: Primer must be applied within 12 hours of cleaning

 and masking.

 1)  Apply a light, uniform coat by spraying, with a clean brush or with a BMS15-5, class A wiper.
 2)  Apply sufficient primer to wet the surface and cause a light pink color after it becomes dry. Thickness of primer should be 0.0001 to 0.0003 inch (0.1 to 0.3 mil).
 NOTE: Be careful to minimize the thickness of the primer.
____ Thicker primer is alright in overlap areas.
 CAUTION: THE INSULATION MAY NOT ADHERE CORRECTLY, IF YOU DO
_______ NOT ALLOW THE PRIMER TO CURE FOR THE MINIMUM TIME OR LET THE CURE EXCEED MAXIMUM TIME.
 3)  Let the primer cure for a minimum of 30 minutes before you apply the insulation coat. a) Do not let the primer cure for more than 12 hours.
 CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE PRIMED SURFACE OR ALLOW FOREIGN
_______ MATERIAL TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE PRIMED SURFACE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, THE INSULATION WILL NOT ADHERE.
 4)  Remove the primer coat if the primed surface is damage or the maximum 12 hour cure time is exceeded.

 (4)  Prepare one of these materials for the repair:
 (a)  
BMS10-102, Type 1, class 2 with the instructions to mix the
 insulation.


 (b)  
BMS10-102, Type II topcoat with Catalyst B.


 NOTE: Added silica fibers to this topcoat.

 (c)  RTV 106 (BAC 5010, Type 74).
 NOTE: This is a ready to use, one part silicone
____
 adhesive/sealant.

 (5)  Fill the rework area with mixed uncured insulation, topcoat or the silicone adhesive/sealant with a spatula, trowel or putty knife.
 (a)  Prepare the BMS10-102, Type I, Class 2 Insulating Coating:
 1)  Cure BMS10-102, Type I, Class 2 Insulating Coating for 30 minutes at 70 to 85 F, plus 1 hour at 120 to 150 F.

2)  Smooth edges with 240 grit or finer abrasive paper. a) Remove dust with a soft brush or a clean cheesecloth.
 (b)  Prepare BMS10-102, TYPE II topcoat (with Catalyst B): 1) Use the Thermolyte - 12 (Dibutyl Tin Dilaurate) or Nuocure
 28 (Tin Octoate) to prepare the RTV60 sealant. 2) Mix the sealant before you add the catalyst. 3) Use the table in Fig. 801 to find the necessary pot life. 4) Add the catalyst to the sealant. 5) Mix the catalyst and the sealant fully. 6) Make the sealant thin with naphtha (10 to 45 percent by
 volume) so you can apply it with a brush. 7) Mix the sealant fully. 8) Smooth the material with a spatula, trowel or putty knife. 9) Permit the sealant to dry at ambient temperature.
 NOTE: The sealant will stay tacky for 28-36 hours.

 WARNING: DO NOT GET THE METHYL ETHYL KETONE (MEK) IN YOUR
_______ MOUTH OR EYES, OR ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM THE MEK. PUT ON A PROTECTIVE SPLASH GOGGLE AND GLOVES WHEN YOU USE THE MEK. KEEP THE MEK AWAY FROM SPARKS, FLAMES, AND HIGH TEMPERATURES. THE MEK IS A POISONOUS AND FLAMMABLE SOLVENT WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE.
 10) Clean the brushes with the methyl ethyl ketone or naphtha.
 (c)  Apply RTV 106 directly to the dammaged area. 1) Smooth the RTV 106 with a spatula, trowel or putty knife.

 (6)  Trowel repair for minor damage and slight abrasions; limited to areas not more than 4 square inches (25.8 square centimeters) and damage that is not deeper than 20 percent of the thickness.
