B. One actuator on each thrust reverser permits each thrust reverser to be opened independently for access to the engine.
C. The actuators are installed to the strut and push against the actuator mount fitting on the upper bifurcation.
D. The actuator inlet fitting includes a flow control plug (restrictor) as a safety device. The flow control plug limits the thrust reverser closing speed. In the event of rapid closure (fluid leak, hold open rod dislocation, etc.), the restrictor will provide a minimum 15 seconds closing cycle.
E. Thrust Reverser Opening - Hand Pump Method
(1)
The opening system for each thrust reverser includes the actuator, the flexhose from the actuator to the tubing installed on each torque box of the thrust reverser, and the quick-release (pressure) manifold.
(2)
A quick-release manifold, installed at the bottom of each torque box permits connection of a handpump. You can get access to the 5 and 7 o'clock position manifold when the fan cowl panels are opened.
(3)
A filter at the input fitting protects the restrictor and actuator from engine oil contamination.
(4)
A handpump, which has a self-contained oil reservoir, is attached to the manifold with a return valve on pump closed. Pumping the handpump directs oil to the actuator to lift the thrust reverser.
(5)
When the return valve on handpump is opened, oil goes back into the pump reservoir and lowers the thrust reverser. The weight of the thrust reverser will cause it to close in 15 seconds.
14. Reverser Opening Actuator

A. The reverser opening actuator is a single acting unit that is extended by hydraulic pressure and retracted by use of the weight of thrust reverser when extend pressure is removed. The reverser opening actuator contains a flow control plug that permits free hydraulic flow for extension but restricts flow during retraction to limit closing speed.
15. Hold-Open Rods (Fig. 12)

A. Each thrust reverser has one hold-open rod. The hold-open rod pivots from a torque box mount below the center locking hydraulic actuator and is held in the stowed position with its rod end connector. The hold-open rod engages a bracket on the engine fan case and holds the thrust reverser open to the 45-degree position when fully extended.
