R  (4) Harness or bundle: A harness is made up of a set of electrical wires. Each harness corresponds to a particular route.
R  (5) Wiring: Electrical wiring is an electrical connection between two or more points excluding the associated termination devices and the necessary means for its installation and identification.
R  (6) Electrical items: Electrical items are all the connecting items (splices, connectors, terminal blocks, pressure seals, etc.) and end elements such as terminals, contacts, etc., for which Airbus is responsible (these do not include items that are considered as Buyer Furnished Equipment).
R  (7) EWIS: An Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) is an electrical connection between two or more points including the associated termination devices and the necessary means for its installation and identification.
R  (8) Wiring attachment: All items used to attach, tie or make up the wiring and used to apply the routing and separation rules. Clamps, raceways, sheaths or conduits used for electrical purpose are included in this definition. (For more information, refer to chapters: Harness Protection -20-33-30 and Harness Attachment - 20-33-40)
R  (9) Routing and separation Design and installation rules which ensure adequate separation and electrical isolation from other systems and structure.

 B. Particular recommendations

 (1)
If an EWIS (Electrical Wiring Interconnection System) failure occurs, the routing and separation play an important role in limiting the hazardous effects of the failure. For this purpose, the routing and separation must be kept in accordance with the aircraft basic design for the life of the aircraft. (For more information, refer to chapter: Separation/Routing -20-33-20)

 (2)
The wiring must constantly be kept clean

 _______
CAUTION : ALWAYS OBEY THE PRECAUTIONS THAT FOLLOW TO KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING IN A SATISFACTORY CONDITION (ELECTRICALLY AND MECHANICALLY SERVICEABLE). WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK, REPAIRS OR MODIFICATIONS, ALWAYS KEEP ELECTRICAL WIRING, COMPONENTS AND THE WORK AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE. TO DO THIS:
-PUT PROTECTION, SUCH AS PLASTIC SHEETING, CLOTHS, ETC. AS
 NECESSARY ON WIRING AND COMPONENTS

-REGULARLY REMOVE ALL SHAVINGS, UNWANTED MATERIAL AND
 OTHER CONTAMINATION.
THESE PRECAUTIONS WILL DECREASE THE RISK OF CONTAMINATION
AND DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRICAL WIRING INSTALLATION.
IF THERE IS CONTAMINATION, REFER TO ESPM CHAPTER 20-55-00,
 CLEANING.

 (3)
It is strictly prohibited to apply any stress on the wiring: For example:

 -
Do not pull on cables or harnesses when the cable ties or
 attachment items are tightened,

 -
Do not place or hang objects or tools on cables or harnesses,

 -
Do not step or sit on harnesses.

 (4)
Components, or their approved substitutes, listed in the applicable manual should be used for maintenance, repair or modification of the aircraft. EWIS modifications to the original type design shall be designed and installed to the same standards as used in the original design.

 (5)
Be careful when you use cutting or abrasive tools, corrosive products, or heating devices in any wiring area.

 (6)
All disconnected wiring ends must be protected (Refer to chapter: Protection During Maintenance Check - 20-54-00).

R  ________________________2. Manufacture of harnesses

 A. Recommendations
 (Ref. Fig. 001, 002)

 (1)
To facilitate installation and maintenance, the harnesses are not combed over their full length, but:

 -
Wires should not pass across the harness.

 -
Wires must not protrude from the harness (correct tying pitch helps prevent this condition).

 (2)
Cable tie installation tools must be adjusted so that cable insulation is not damaged by overtightening (This requirement is particulary important for coaxial wires, optical fiber cable). (Refer to chapters: Wiring Tool - 20-25-51 and Tie Wraps Description and Installation - 20-33-44).

 (3)
The head of a cable tie NSA935401 must never be in contact with an adjacent harness.

 (4)
The use of cable ties NSA935401 inside conduits and raceways is prohibited.

 B. Tools and tooling Tools are necessary to make up wiring. Make sure these tools are applicable for use and do a periodic check according to the applicable maintenance regulations.
