B. Wire marking The means to mark the cable depends of the category of the cables. There are three main categories of cables :
-
The printable cables.
-
The non-printable cables.
-
The cables without marking.
(1) The printable cables
(Ref. Fig. 001)
(a) Definition The printable cables are identified by direct marking of the identification on the insulation, at regular intervals.
-This category mainly concerns the 24 to 6 gauge cables of a length of more than 75 mm (2.9527 in.) (aircraft harness or large VU harness).
R - The optical fiber cable.
(b) Operation
-
For the single-wire cables, the hot stamp marking or laser marking shall be used depending on the coating code.
-
For the shielded cables, the laser marking shall be used. Printing shall be performed on the whole length of the cable :
-
For the cables of a length less than 2000 mm (78.7402 in.) : at a maximum pitch of 75 mm (2.9527 in.)
-
For the cables of a length more than 2000 mm (78.7402 in.) :
-
at a maximum pitch of 75 mm (2.9527 in.) on a length of 1 m from each end,
-
at a maximum pitch of 380 mm (14.9606 in.) on the center
portion of the cable. R - For the optical fiber cable, the UV laser marking shall be R used.
(c) Special cases
-If a modification calls for the shortening of the cable on the zone of the 75 mm (2.9527 in.) pitch (1000 mm (39.3701 in.)) from each end), you shall install a cable identification sleeve at the shortened end.

-The cables connected to control and indicating items of equipment such as switches, annunciator lights or magnetic indicators installed outside VUs shall have the identification (NSA 937203 or E0646 sleeve) of the terminal on which they are connected.
(2) Non-printable cables or cables with Identification Sleeves (Ref. Fig. 002, 003)
(a) Definition The non-printable cables are cables that cannot have direct marking due to their physical structure or whose insulation can be deteriorated by the marking (e.g. coaxial cables). This category comprises :
-large gauge cables (gauge 14 and below), (except the cables printed by CO2 laser mentioned before),
-usual medium gauge cables, length less than 2500 mm (98.4252 in.), located inside electronic racks,
-all the cables printable by hot stamping and connected at least to one end termination (VN, VG, VC) located in a Skydrol zone (ref. Specific Areas chapters),
-sensitive cables identified by code S.
(b) Operation
The cables are identified with sleeves NSA 937201. -------------------------------------------------------------| TYPE CODE | SLEEVE TYPE | OPERATING TEMP | |---------------|----------------------|--------------------| | MA | NOT RETRACTABLE | HIGH TEMP. | | | | -55.C TO 200.C | |---------------|----------------------|--------------------| | MD | HEAT RETRACTABLE | HIGH TEMP. | | | | -55.C TO 200.C | |---------------|----------------------|--------------------| | ME MG | HEAT RETRACTABLE | LOW TEMP. | | | | -55.C TO 135.C | -------------------------------------------------------------
The sleeves shall be adapted to the cable gauge and located as
close as possible to the terminations (150 mm (5.9055 in.) max.).
These sleeves are printables to bear the cable identification
characters.
The sleeves are white, printed black.
____
NOTE : for the sensitive cables (code S) the sleeves are pink, printed back. The character height is 3.2 mm (0.1259 in.) minimum.

The sleeves installed on cable (length <= 2500 mm (98.4252 in.)) in electrical power centers shall be shrunk.
Single-wire cables (Ref. Fig. 002)
-These cables are identified with sleeves NSA 937201 ME.
-Sleeve length be between 25 mm (0.9842 in.) and 35 mm (1.3779 in.).
Sheathed multi-wire cables (wires of different colors) (Ref. Fig. 003)
_a The multi-wire cable and the wires have different
identification markings (only A300 / A300-600 / A310)
The cable shall have one (or several) sleeves at each end
