(2) When the surfaces are clean, flush with clean water.
WARNING : USE THE CORRECT PERSONAL PROTECTION.
_______ COMPRESSED AIR WILL CAUSE LOOSE PARTICLES THAT CAN GET IN YOUR EYES. THE AIRSTREAM CAN CAUSE CUTS, DO NOT POINT IT AT YOUR SKIN.
(3) Dry the surfaces with dry, filtered compressed air at a maximum pressure of 1.4 bar (20 psi).
Subtask 49-12-00-210-059
B. Visual Inspection of the APU Suspension
(1) Inspection of the tie-rods and bonding straps.
(a) Examine the tie-rods (3) for damage (scratches and cracks) and corrosion under a source of white light.
NOTE : If you are not sure if a component has cracks, do a crack
____ detection test with a dye penetrant.
(b) Make sure that the tie-rods and the the tie-rod attachments are not bent.
NOTE : Do the check with the straight-edges. On each tie-rod
____ assembly, you must do two checks in an angle of 90 degrees apart. On the tie-rods which hold the forward vibration isolators (4035KM and 4045KM), you must do the check with a straight-edge, 500mm (20 in.) length. On the tie-rods which hold the aft vibration isolators (4055KM), you must do the check with a straight-edge, 300 mm (12 in.) length. Move the straight-edges along the tie-rods to check the full length.
(c)
Make sure that the nuts of the bolts (1) are safetied with cotter pins and that the are in correct condition.
(d)
Make sure that the nuts (2) are safetied with the lockwashers.
(e)
Examine the bonding straps (8) for correct attachment and condition.
NOTE : If a component is not in correct condition, replace it.

(2) Inspection of the vibration isolators, coverplates and APU mount brackets.
(a) Examine the vibration isolators (4), coverplates (9) and the APU mount brackets (7) for damage and corrosion under a source of white light.
NOTE : If you are not sure if a component has cracks, do a crack
____
detection test with a dye penetrant.
(b)
Visually examine the vibration isolator self-lock nuts (5), make sure that the red varnish torque position marks are in line.
(c)
Make sure that bolts (6) of the APU mount brackets (7) are safetied with lockwire and that the lockwire is in correct condition.
(d)
Measure the distance between the lower surface of the vibration isolator and the upper surface of the APU mount brackets with a caliper gauge. Make sure that the measured distances are not greater than the permitted dimensions DIM A and DIM B.
NOTE : The permitted dimensions are:
____
-
DIM A is max 9.5 mm (0.3740 in.)
-
DIM B is max 18.0 mm (0.7086 in.) If you find that:
-the measured distance on any or all of the vibration isolator(s) is greater than the permitted DIM A and DIM B than you must replace all of the vibration isolators.
NOTE : If a component is not in correct condition, replace it.
