Repair of the Turbine Plenum Insulation Blanket (GTCP 36-300)
WARNING : DO NOT TOUCH THE APU UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS
_______ WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
WARNING : LOCK THE MECHANISM OF THE ACCESS DOOR 316AR WITH THE PIP PIN WHEN YOU
_______ OPEN THE ACCESS DOOR. THIS WILL PREVENT INJURY.
CAUTION : MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE CORRECT FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT
_______ AVAILABLE. THE APU FIRE EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO EXTINGUISH A FIRE IF THE ACCESS DOORS 315AL AND 316AR ARE OPEN/ REMOVED. KEEP OPERATION OF THE APU TO A MINIMUM WHEN THE ACCESS DOORS ARE OPEN/REMOVED.
CAUTION : MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL-FEED SYSTEM DOES NOT HAVE ANY LEAKS. LEAKS IN
_______ THE FUEL-FEED SYSTEM CAN CAUSE A FIRE.
1. Reason for the Job

A.
A number of incidences of rubber surge duct separations have occured which
in some cases has resulted in damage to the turbine-plenum
insulation-blankets.
B.
The rubber duct separations direct the high velocity load-control
discharge-air over the external surge-duct portion of the turbine plenum. In
some cases this results in localized damage to the insulation blanket. With
the APU inlet temperature above 125 deg.F (51.66 deg.C) the exposed skin
temperature may exceed a 450 deg.F (232.22 deg.C) specification limit
established during aircraft certification.
C.
This repair authorizes the modification of the existing damaged plenum
blanket P/N 3846330-10 to allow the incorporation of the P/N 3846643-1
repair blanket. In addition, this repair provides instructions for the
replacement of the plenum surge blanket P/N 3846330-2 as necessary.
