(1) Do the initial adjustment of the rod end bearing with the steps that follow:
(a) Tighten the rod end bearing until the flat surface below the hexagonal is approximately 9/16 inch (14.3 mm) from the flat surface below the actuator rod threads.
NOTE: This is only an approximate adjustment.

WARNING: DO NOT PUT YOUR FINGERS NEAR THE LINKAGES, UNISON RINGS, OR
_______ LEVERS WHEN YOU OPERATE THE STATOR-VANE SYSTEM. YOU CAN CAUSE INJURY TO YOUR HANDS IF YOU DO.
CAUTION:_______DO THIS ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE WITH PRECISION. IF YOU DO NOT, THE HPC BLADE FATIGUE CAN INCREASE, INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR, OR POSSIBLE ENGINE FAILURE.
CAUTION: ALWAYS REMOVE THE RIG PINS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE STATOR-VANE
_______ SYSTEM. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE STATOR-VANE SYSTEM CAN OCCUR.
(2)
Adjust the rod end bearing of the actuator with the steps that follow:
(a)
Install a crowsfoot and wrench on the flats of the bellcrank
adjacent to the 5th-stage adjuster.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH TORQUE ON THE BELLCRANK.
_______ TOO MUCH TORQUE CAN BEND THE BELLCRANK BRACKET WHICH CAN CAUSE A BAD RIGGING.
(b)
Pull down on the wrench until you feel the internal stop of the actuator.
(c)
Push up on the wrench until you are off the internal stop.
(d)
Pull down on the wrench again until the actuator rod is fully extended against the internal stop.
(e)
Hold the actuator rod fully extended against the internal stop (vanes are open) with 300-400 pound-inches (33.9-45.2 newton-meters) on the crowsfoot.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE ACTUATOR ROD FULLY EXTENDED WHEN
_______ YOU INSTALL THE BELLCRANK RIG PIN. IF YOU LET THE ACTUATOR ROD RETRACT, YOU WILL NOT GET AN ACCURATE CHECK. A BAD RIGGING CAN CAUSE A DANGEROUS STABILITY AND EFFECTS ON THE LENGTH OF LIFE.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE END OF THE RIG PINS ARE CORRECTLY AND
_______
FULLY INSTALLED. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, YOU CAN CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE COMPRESSOR STATOR VANE CONTROL SYSTEM.
(f) Adjust the rod end bearing until you can put the bellcrank rig pin (PWA 86097) into the rig pin slot of the bellcrank arm and into the two holes of the support.
NOTE: You must apply the same torque on the bellcrank when you
____
install the bellcrank rig pin.

(g)
Lock the rod end bearing to the actuator rod with the jamnut.
1) Tighten the jamnut to 460-510 pound-inches (52.0-57.6 newton-meters).
(h)
Remove the bellcrank rig pin.
(i)
Push up on the wrench and retract the actuator rod.
(j)
Pull down to fully extend the actuator rod again.
(k)
Hold the actuator fully extended against the internal stop with 300-400 pound-inches (33.9-45.2 newton-meters) on the crowsfoot.
(l)
Install the bellcrank rig pin again with the actuator rod fully extended.
(m)
If you cannot install the bellcrank rig pin, do the adjustment for the rod end bearing again.
(n)
If you can install the bellcrank rig pin, do the steps that follow: 1) Lock the jamnut and the rod end bearing with the key
washer. 2) Bend one set of tabs on the rod end bearing. 3) Bend the other set of tabs on the jamnut. 4) Install the lockwire and seal.
(o)
Tighten the nut for the rod end bearing to a minimum of 15 pound-inches (1.7 newton-meters) plus the torque which is necessary to turn the nut on the bellcrank clevis bolt. 1) Continue to tighten the nut until the slot in the nut
