If the electrical switch box is not available, operate the stator vane system with the steps that follow:

 (a)  
Put the control handle of the hydraulic cart to the neutral position.

 (b)  
Turn the valve handle for the air supply to the closed position.

(c)  
Use a standard crowsfoot and wrench on the flats of the bellcrank adjacent to the 5th-stage adjuster: 1) Push up on the wrench and move the bellcrank to the closed

 position until the position slots approximately align. 2) Remove the crowsfoot and wrench.

 (d)  
Operate the hydraulic cart to supply 250-300 psi hydraulic
 pressure to the actuator PF port.

 

 NOTE: The stator vane actuator will move to the full open
____ position. The stator vane actuator piston is extended against the internal stop.
 (e)  Do these four steps one more time.

 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE END OF THE RIG PINS ARE CORRECTLY AND FULLY
_______ INSTALLED. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMPRESSOR STATOR VANE CONTROL SYSTEM.
 (7)  Install the rig pin in the actuator:
 (a)  
With the actuator rod fully extended (vanes open), put the
 bellcrank rig pin (PWA 86097) into the rig pin slot of the
 bellcrank arm and into the two holes of the support.


 (b)  
If you can install the bellcrank rig pin, do the adjustment of the unison rings.

 (c)  
If you cannot install the bellcrank rig pin, do the subsequent steps to adjust the rod end bearing.

 CAUTION: YOU MUST ALWAYS REMOVE THE RIG PINS BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE
_______ PRESSURE FROM THE ACTUATOR. IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THE RIG PINS, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SYSTEM.
 (8)  If it is necessary, adjust the rod end bearing of the actuator:
 (a)  
Move the control handle on the hydraulic cart to the neutral
 position.


 (b)  
Turn the valve handle for the air supply to the closed
 position.


 (c)  
Remove the cotter pin from the bellcrank celvis bolt of the rod end bearing.

 (d)  
Remove the bellcrank clevis bolt, washer, and nut from the rod end bearing.

 (e)  
Remove the lockwire and seal from the actuator rod.

 (f)  
Make the tabs of the key washer straight.

 (g)  
Loosen the jamnut.

 (h)  
Remove the rod end bearing.

 (i)  
Remove the key washer.

 (j)  
Install a new key washer.

 (k)  
Lubricate the threads of the rod end bearing with engine oil.

(l)  
Install the rod end bearing.

 (m)  
Tighten the rod end bearing until the flat surface below the hexagonal is approximately 9/16 inch (14.3 mm) from the flat surface below the actuator rod threads.


 NOTE: This is only an initial adjustment.

 (n)  Align and temporarily connect the rod end bearing to the bellcrank with the bellcrank clevis bolt.
 NOTE: Make sure the bolt head stays against the surface of the
____
 bellcrank. Do not let the bolt move out of the bolt
 hole.

 (o)  Operate the hydraulic cart to supply 250-300 psi hydraulic pressure to the PF port. 1) Fully extend the actuator rod to the full open position.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE ACTUATOR ROD FULLY EXTENDED WHEN
_______ YOU INSTALL THE BELLCRANK RIG PIN. IF YOU LET THE ACTUATOR ROD RETRACT, YOU WILL NOT GET AN ACCURATE CHECK. A BAD RIGGING CAN CAUSE A DANGEROUS STABILITY AND EFFECTS ON THE LENGTH OF LIFE.
