NOTE: The "BOTH ON L" and the NORMAL positions load the left FMC____

ú (1) Do these steps to install the FMC software.
(a) Put the PDL power switch in the ON position.
(b) Put the diskette in the PDL diskette drive.

ú (2) The PDL automatically loads the software . The usual sequence of
ú the procedure is as follows:
(a) The RDY light will come on approximately 3 seconds after you
install the diskette into the PDL.
(b) The PROG light will come on approximately 3 seconds after the
RDY light comes on.
ú (c) While the PDL loads the software into the FMC, make sure that
ú the RDY and PROG lights stay on.
(d) If the RDY light goes off and the PROG and the CHNG lights come
on, follow these steps:
NOTE: This shows that more than one diskette is necessary for____
the PDL to completely load the software.
1) Push the EJECT button and remove the diskette.
2) Make sure the CHNG light goes off and the PROG light is on.
3) Install the second diskette into the PDL.
4) Make sure that the RDY and the PROG lights come on.
(e) When the data transmit is completed, make sure the RDY and PROG
lights go off.
(f) Make sure that the COMP light comes on.

(1) If a failure occurs, the CDU display will show LOAD FAILURE and DATA
LOAD INOP. The XFER, R/W, or HRDW lights on the PDL also come on.

(2) AIRPLANES WITH FMC SOFTWARE UPDATES 1-6;
The CDU display will also show these failure indications:
(a) CHECK DBL OR INTERFACE - This shows the most possible cause of
the failure.
(b) NDB EXCEEDS FMC MEMORY - This shows that the navigation data
base on the media is too large for the FMC data base memory.
