FLIGHT MANAGEMENT COMPUTER SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING
____________________________________________________
1. General_______
A. You use the Flight Management System (FMS) Built-In-Test-Equipment (BITE) to identify Flight Management Computer System (FMCS) failures and malfunctions.
B. You can find the FMS BITE procedure in Chapter 22. FMS BITE includes BITE for these systems:
(1)
FMCS
(2)
Digital Flight Control System (DFCS)
(3)
Autothrottle (A/T)
(4)
Inertial Reference System (IRS)
(5)
Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS)
C. FMCS, DFCS, A/T and IRS BITE use the FMCS Control Display Unit (CDU) to control the BITE test procedures.
D. When you make the selection of the FMS system, that system gives the necessary data and intructions to do the tests on the CDU.
E. The CDU shows you when a test is completed satisfactorily, or when there is a failure in the FMCS.
F. AIRPLANES WITH OPTIONAL PORTABLE CDU RECEPTACLE; There is a receptacle in the electrical/electronic equipment (E-E) bay, where you can connect a portable CDU. You use the portable CDU to operate the FMS BITE from the E-E bay.
G. AIRPLANES WITH OPTIONAL PORTABLE PRINTER RECETACLE; There is a receptacle on panel P18, where you can connect a portable printer. You can use the portable printer during FMCS BITE.
H. AIRPLANES WITH FMC SOFTWARE P/N 549297-005 (U7.4) AND ON, OR 549250-004 (U8.4) AND ON, OR 549849-004 (U10.1) AND ON; After an FMC failure occurs, you can get data from the FMC to find the cause of the failure. You use the Portable Data Loader (PDL) or Airborne Data Loader (ADL), as applicable, to make a copy of the data on a 3.5 inch disk.
