R. Stall Management Computer (SMC)
(1) An output of the FMC interfaces with the SMC through an ARINC 429 low-speed DITS. This output provides FMC computed V1, V2, and Vr speed to the SMC.
S. Digital Flight Data Acquisition Unit (DFDAU, When installed)
(1) Outputs of the FMC interface with the DFDAU through an ARINC 429 low-speed DITS, and hi-speed DITS. These outputs provide FMC data to the DFDAU.
T. Receptacle for Portable Data Loader
(1) A receptacle on the P18 panel allows an external portable data loader to interface with the FMC. The portable data loader is used, as required, to load and update the navigation data base of the FMC.
U. Receptacle for Portable Printer (Optional)
(1) A receptacle on the P18 panel allows an external portable printer to interface with the FMC. The printer is used, as required, during system maintenance.
V. Receptacle for Portable CDU (Optional)
(1) A receptacle on the E1-1 shelf allows a portable CDU to interface with the FMC. The portable CDU is used, as required, to access FMS BITE from the E-E bay.
4. Control Display Unit (Fig. 4)____________________
A. Two Control Display Units (CDUs) are included in the FMCS. The CDUs are physically and functionally identical: these CDUs allow the operator to interface with the FMC. Both CDUs can be used independently or simultaneously for control and display during a flight. Either CDU may be utilized to enter system data. Data entered on one CDU will appear on the corresponding display page of the other CDU except for scratch pad entries on line 14.
B. CDU Data Display
(1) The CDU data displays are presented to the operator on the five-inch Cathode Ray Tube (CRT). The basic display format consists of an array of fourteen 24-character lines. A variety of alphanumeric characters and symbols can be presented on each line in the form of an intensity-modulated raster scan, under the control of the FMC. The basic display format is subdivided by specifically defined display data blocks, for example:
(a) The first five character spaces in the first line of the display are reserved for a prefix to the page-identifying title. The prefix indicates whether the information currently on the display is the active executed plan (ACT) or a modification (MOD) to the active plan. If this data status block is blank, the data on display is either not plan-specific or not active.

The next 14 character spaces of the first line of the display are reserved for an identifying title for the display. The title may be a simple one which identifies the type of information presented in a data display (PROGRESS, for instance). However, the title may be more complex, perhaps identifying a display which corresponds to a particular flight phase, and the mode of operation in that phase (ECON CRZ CLB).
(c)
The remaining five character spaces in the first line form the page number for each display. This tells the operator the position of the current display in a string of pages that might exist for some FMCS functions.
