C. FMCS, DFCS, A/T and IRS BITE use the FMCS Control Display Unit (CDU) to control the BITE test procedures.
D. When you make the selection of the FMS system, that system gives the necessary data and instructions to do the tests on the CDU.
E. The CDU shows you when a test is completed satisfactorily, or when there is a failure in the FMCS.
F. AIRPLANES WITH OPTIONAL PORTABLE CDU; There is a receptacle in the electrical/electronic equipment (E-E) bay, where you can connect a portable CDU. You use the portable CDU to operate the FMS BITE from the E-E bay.
G. AIRPLANES WITH OPTIONAL PORTABLE PRINTER; There is a receptacle on panel P18, where you can connect a portable printer. You can use the portable printer during FMCS BITE.

1. General_______
A. This procedure contains the installation of the navigation data base.
B. The navigation data base contains all the necessary information to operate the FMCS in a specified area. A new navigation data base is necessary to replace an expired navigation data base. You can find the expired date of the navigation on the IDENT 1/1 page shown on the CDU.
C. To read about software installation times and data loaders, do this task: On-Airplane Software Installation (AMM 20-15-11/201).
D. The data in the navigation data base includes:

Terminal area procedures and approaches

E. You use a Portable Data Base Loader (PDL) to install a new navigation data base.

2. Navigation Data Base Installation (PDL) (Diskette)__________________________________________________
A. General
(1)
This task uses the PDL to do the installation of the navigation data base in the FMC.
(2)
The PDL connects to the FMC through the FMC DATA TRANSFER UNIT RECEPTACLE. The PDL gets 115V AC, 400 Hz power through the receptacle. You can find the FMCS data transfer unit receptacle on top of the P18-1 panel.
B. Special Tools and Equipment
(1) 30100 - Portable Data Loader, Demo Systems, Moorpark, CA (Fig. 202)
NOTE: Demo Systems PDL uses a diskette to load the navigation data
____ base, and is compatible with both low and high speed formats.
The data base loader is not a Boeing supplied item. This coverage is included for information only. See the data loader instructions, which are supplied by the vender, to do the navigation data base installation.
