Hold the LIGHTS switch in the TEST position. You can find the LIGHTS switch on the pilots' center instrument panel (P2).
(c)
Make sure that all five annunciators (DSPY, FAIL, MSG, OFST, and EXEC) on the CDU come on.
(d)
Set the LIGHTS switch to the BRT or DIM position if it is necessary.

FMCS CONTROL DISPLAY UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This procedure contains two tasks. The first task is for the removal of the flight management computer system (FMCS) control display unit (CDU). The second task is for the installation of the FMCS CDU.
B. You can find the FMCS CDU No. 1 on the left corner of the Pilots' Forward Electronics Panel, P9. You can find the CDU No. 2 (if installed) on the right corner of the Pilots' Forward Electronics Panel, P9.
C. Six quick-release fasteners hold the CDU in position. An electrical connector attaches the electrical cable to a connector (J1) on the rear panel of the CDU.
D. The CDU has five annunciators: DSPY, FAIL, MSG, OFST, and EXEC. Two of the annunciators are on the left of the CDU (DSPY/FAIL), and two are on the right of the CDU (MSG/OFST). These four annunciators use two lamps soldered on an annunciator circuit board assembly. The EXEC annunciator is on the right side of the CDU and has a lamp assembly with two lamps and a lamp holder. These assemblies are serviceable without removing the CDU.
E. The CDU keyboard can be serviced without removing the CDU when one of the keys does not operate.

(1) Open these circuit breakers and attach the DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
(a) P18 Panel
1) CDU No. 1
2) CDU No. 2 (if installed)
NOTE: On airplanes with provisions for dual FMC, FMCS CDU
____ (ANCDU, MCDU) No. 2 circuit breaker will be on the P6-1 panel.
3) FMC (or FMCS CMPTR)

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND LOCKS ARE INSTALLED IN ALL OF THE
_______ LANDING GEAR BEFORE YOU MOVE THE CONTROL LEVER FOR THE LANDING GEAR. WITHOUT THE GROUND LOCKS, THE LANDING GEAR CAN RETRACT AND CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

If you remove the CDU No. 2, make sure the ground locks are installed in the nose and main landing gear (AMM 32-00-01/201).

If you remove the CDU No. 2, put the control lever for the landing gear in the OFF position.
