The CDU display shows "FMC".

 (2)  
The FAIL indicator light on the CDU front panel comes on.

The FMC P/RST indicator light comes on.

 D.  A blank CDU display is an indication of a CDU failure.
 E.  The FMCS BITE lets you do the operational and system tests on the FMCS.
 F.  Complete the FMCS system installation, inspection, and tests for
 continuity before you do the FMCS BITE tests.

 G.  The airplane's location is necessary to complete do the FMCS BITE test. The location must be in degrees accurate to 9.1 arc-minutes of the latitude.
 H.  These systems must operate correctly for you to complete the FMCS BITE tests.

 (1)  
You use the CDU to do the FMCS BITE test.

 (2)  
On airplanes with more than one CDU, you can do the FMCS BITE test with CDU No. 1 or CDU No. 2.

 (3)  
Twelve line-select keys (LSKs) are on the CDU front panel. There are six LSKs on each side of the display screen. The LSKs align with the third, fifth, seventh, ninth, eleventh and thirteenth lines on the display. You can write data into the CDU display on these lines.

 (4)  
When you write data into the CDU display, the data is shown on the CDU scratch pad.

 (5)  
The CDU scratch pad can also show FMCS failures and alert messages.

 (6)  
You use the CLR key on the CDU front panel to remove messages from the scratch pad.

 (7)  
To move data from the scratch pad to a display line, push the LSK adjacent to the display line.

 (8)  
You can make a copy of data in a display line and put it in the scratch pad. Make sure the scratch pad is empty and then push the LSK adjacent to the display line. The scratch pad will show the same data as the display line. You can move the data from the scratch pad to a different display line.

 (9)  
You can make a selection and control the sequence of tests with the LSKs. A display line can have a caret (<) that points to a LSK. You make a selection of a display line when you push an LSK adjacent to a caret.

 (10)
 Two of the frequent display lines you can see on the CDU screen are CONTINUE> and <INDEX.

 (11)
 A selection of the CONTINUE> line shows the subsequent page of a test procedure on the CDU display.

 (12)
 A selection of the <INDEX line shows the index page on the CDU display. You use the index page to set the tests.

 (13)
 You Push LSK 6L (<INDEX) to stop FMCS BITE and show the MAINT BITE page on the CDU display.
