Close circuit breakers for magnetic heading reference systems No. 1 and No. 2 (Ref 34-21-00).

 (2)  
Set compass controller switches for MHRS No. 1 and No. 2 to SLAVED.

 (3)  
Allow systems to stabilize for approximately 5 minutes.

 (4)  
Observe that heading flags are out of view and all compass cards indicate present airplane magnetic heading in all horizontal situation and radio magnetic indicators.

 (5)  
On both compass controllers, observe that synchronization annunciator is centered.

 (6)  
Compare all compass card readings. System containing magnetic compensator under test should produce same readings as other MHR system within tolerances of the following table.

 COMPASS COUPLER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The compass couplers are installed in the main equipment center on shelf E1-1 and held in place by a cam-action lever built into the units handle. The compass couplers are electrically connected by a connector in the rear of the unit.
 2.  Referenced Procedures

 A.  24-22-00, Maintenance Practices (Apply Power)
 3.  Remove Compass Coupler
______________________
 A.  Open MHRS 1 and MHRS 2 circuit breakers on electronic circuit breaker panel (P7).
 B.  Release locking lever in unit handle and remove compass coupler.
 4.  Install Compass Coupler

 A.  Open MHRS 1 and MHRS 2 circuit breakers on electronic circuit breaker panel (P7).
 B.  Slide compass coupler onto shelf. Engage cam-lock handles in shelf fork assemblies (Ref 20-11-13, Cam-Lock Lever Latch Fork Adjustment, Type II.)
 CAUTION: IMPROPER ADJUSTMENT OF CAM-LOCK LEVER LATCH FORK ASSEMBLIES ON
_______ EQUIPMENT SHELF MAY CAUSE CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION OR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE.
 C.  Test compass coupler.
 (1)  
Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00).

 (2)  
Close MHRS 1 and MHRS 2 circuit breakers (panel P7).

 (3)  
Vary heading control on AP-FD mode select panel. Check that heading bug, on HSI for system being tested, is tracking.

 (4)  
Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-00).

 COMPASS CONTROLLER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The two compass controllers are installed on the pilots' overhead panel (P5) with quick-connect fasteners.
 2.  Reference Procedures
____________________
 A.  24-22-00, Maintenance Practices (Apply Power)
 3.  Remove Compass Controller
_________________________
 A.  Place panel light control to OFF.
 B.  Open MHRS 1 and MHRS 2 circuit breakers on electronic circuit breaker panel P7.
 C.  Disconnect electrical connector, remove mounting fasteners, and remove controller.
 4.  Install Compass Controller
__________________________
 A.  Connect electrical connector and install controller in panel
 using mounting fastners.

 B.  Test Compass Controller
 (1)  
Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00).

 (2)  
Close circuit breakers listed in step 3.B., adjust panel lighting control to maximum brightness position. Verify lighting on panel.

 (3)  
Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-00).
