As the airplane deviates more than 350 feet from the selected altitude, the low level detector is activated, and simultaneously enables the warning module and activates the annunciators through flashing circuit.

 (9)
AF 121, 122, 157, 161, 183, 184; As the airplane deviates more than 300 feet from the selected altitude, the low level detector is activated, and simultaneously enables the warning module and activates the annunciators through flashing circuit.

 (10)
All XA except AF 121, 122, 157, 161, 183, 184; As the airplane deviates more than 950 feet from selected altitude, the high level detector is disabled, and the annunciators are turned off.

 (11)
AF 121, 122, 157, 161, 183, 184; As the airplane deviates more than 900 feet from selected altitude, the high level detector is disabled, and the annunciators are turned off.

 (12)
The approach-deviation latch is then activated, latched to approach mode, and is ready for re-entry.

 (13)
The rate detector inhibits the alerting signals for 2 seconds when a new altitude is selected. The rate detector also resets the approach-deviation latch to approach mode.

 (14)
The failure monitor in the computer continuously monitors the validity signal from CADC No. 2, the converter circuit signals, and electrical power to the computer. Loss of any of these signals will activate the aural warning module and turn on all annunciators steadily.

 (15)
The gear down sensor inhibits the deviation alert signals whenever the landing gear is extended.

 (16)
A system self-test may be performed by pressing the TEST switch and slowly adjusting the selected altitude on the ALT SEL indicator from 1200 feet above the airplane altitude to the airplane altitude and back to 1200 feet above the airplane altitude. The corresponding aural and visual indications will occur when each level is crossed as described previously for normal system operation. On airplanes with Smiths Industries digital altitude alert computer 70-200-004, 70-200-007 or 70-200-009:

 (17)
The preset altitude is selected on the autopilot-flight director mode select panel. The altitude select function enables the pilots to preselect altitude in 100-foot increments from 0 to 50,000 feet.

 (18)
Central air data computer No. 2 provides fine and coarse barometric altitude signals. The two signals are applied to two differential synchros in the autopilot mode select panel, where they are compared to the selected altitude. The first officer's altitude indicator provides fine altitude correction to compensate for barometric pressure variations.

 (19)
The fine altitude output signals from the autopilot mode select panel are applied to the A/D converter in the altitude alert computer to be converted to digital data.

 (20)
When an altitude is selected on the ALT SEL control, the altitude alert computer is latched to approach mode. As the airplane reaches 900 feet from the selected altitude, the AAC valid flag from the microprocessor, and the peripheral interface adapter outputs activate the aural warning module and simultaneously turn on the annunciators. As the airplane reaches 300 feet from the selected altitude, the annunciators are turned off. At the same time, the system is activated for deviation mode.

 (21)
The aural warning circuit operates on a continuous ground signal. The aural warning system cycles the tone associated with the altitude alert system for only 2 |1/2 seconds, even though the ground is left connected.
