paper could provide a format for providing rationales for making trades between the different criteria (i.e.,
frequency error, orthogonality, MAC values, etc.) . Andy Brown took action to distribute paper by Dr. Tim
Hasselman on this subject.
8. Old Business –
Loads short course will not be offered, but Dr. Carlos Cesnik will still offer Aeroelasticity class.
9. New Business
Dale Prit made proposal to that SDTC teach short course “Topics in Structural Dynamics”, with intended
audience being attendees of SDM who would like introduction to specialties they are not familiar with. In
addition to being helpful, this is a great fundraiser for the TC. Ken Alvin suggested that the first year
(possibly SDM 2005) be free as a pilot. Teresa Kinney took action to solicit members on contributing
and/or teaching a section of the course. Dale Pritt took an action to do ??????
There was also a discussion about teaching a more detailed course through AIAA aimed at new
engineers who may be lacking a background in vibrations/structural dynamics. Actions were taken to look
at the different formats that this could be offered. A member recently attending the SAVIAC conference
also described the tutorial sessions held during the conference itself, which were well received. This may
be a future direction for the SDM, to introduce a little more learning and interaction at the conference,
especially for younger (<100 years of age) attendees who do not already think they know everything.
10. Close of Business
Teresa Kinney closed the meeting at 2:00, thanking attendees, and vice-versa.

For two days, Afghan President Karzai stood in the
limelight while attending the Berlin donor
conference. At the conference, he signed
agreements to help stabilize Afghanistan as the
country’s first presidential and parliamentary
elections draws closer. Immediately following the
conference, he boarded a German Air Force Airbus
for his return flight to Afghanistan.
The flight crew of the Hans Grade welcomed on
board perhaps their most prominent passenger to
date. They first traveled to the German Air Transport
Base Termez in Uzbekistan where Colonel Jorg
Lebert, base commander, welcomed the President
and his delegation. They held a short meeting with
representatives from Surchon-Darja, Uzbekistan and
then transfered to a German CC-160 for the
remaining portion of their flight.
While the flights may not have been as comfortable
as a flight on Air Force One, the President returned
to Kabul and expressed his gratitude to the crew for
a safe flight home.
