A new AARP survey indicates that 20% of older Americans
have postponed their retirement because of stock market
losses the past three years. “These losses are disturbing
because I know they are unnecessary,” says Paul Merriman, Seattle
money manager and featured CBSMarketwatch.com columnist.
At two free workshops in January, Merriman will show investors
how to build portfolios that have made money for the past 33
years, including 2000, 2001 and 2002.
Participants in “How to Build and Manage a Million Dollar

The U.S. City Average all-items Consumer Price Index for
urban wage earners & clerical workers (CPI-W) on a 1982-
84=100 base for November 2002 is 177.4. (On a 1967=100
base, the November index is 528.4.) This is a 0.1% increase
from one month ago, and a 2.1% increase from a year ago.

Spokane negotiations continue
SPOKANE - Sale of the Spokane Boeing plant to Triumph Group,
Inc. and negotiations to secure a contract for SPEEA-represented
employees here remained unresolved as the newsletter went to press.
The 42 SPEEA members were receiving up-to-date information
from the Negotiation Team in the workplace, through emails and by
visiting the SPEEA website.
Triumph and SPEEA negotiators continued talking through the
holidays and resumed negotiations after returning to work Jan 2.
The International Association of Machinists (IAM) was voting on
their proposed contract Jan. 6. A date for a SPEEA vote was not
available by press time.
Triumph set Jan. 9th as the latest date to complete negotiations and
close the purchase of the plant from The Boeing Company. The sale
is contingent on Triumph’s ability to secure contracts with the IAM
and SPEEA.
