Technology in Pakistan. He worked for Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA) as engineer in
avionics maintenance, troubleshooting defects
with special emphasis on navigational and
communication aids. He oversaw the installation
of Ground Proximity Warning Systems on the
Airbus fleet of PIA and was part of the team
which liaised with regulatory authorities to grant
PIA the coveted Joint Aviation Requirements
certificate. He was a founding member of a
volunteer group under the auspices of the
Ministry of Planning which championed health
care and education reforms in rural Pakistan.
Kamran enjoys playing the flute, squash and
parajumping. He is looking forward to a career
in operations or supply chain management and
project administration.

Rodrigo Mattos is a Metallurgical
Engineer who obtained his undergraduate degree
in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering from
the Universidad Nacional de Colombia. He
holds a M.Sc. from the Colorado School of
Mines and a Ph.D. (also Metallurgical
Engineering) from the University of Illinois at
Urbana. Rodrigo’s professional experience is
very broad but his primary focus has been in the
area of metallurgy of non-ferrous alloys,
particularly aluminum and copper. He was also
Director of a school for graduate engineers and
he has published a number of English-language
articles dealing primarily with metal fatigue.
Rodrigo plans to relocate to Canada and pursue
a career involving planning, organizing and
directing metallurgical plant and production
operations, processes and human resources using
cutting-edge technology.
Chiung Chong Lim hails from Singapore
where he spent almost three years as a Brigade
Reconnaissance Trooper in the National Service.
Twice he participated in detachment exercises to
Australia. Then Chong obtained a B.Eng. in
Mechanical and Production Engineering from
Nanyang Technological University. He
specialized in semiconductor fabrication and
manufacturing management. He was also
selected by the faculty to participate in its
Leadership Development Program, 1997-2000.
During his stint at Seagate Technology
International, Chong designed a user-friendly
system to facilitate the supply chain and lean
manufacturing in the logistics department.
Ultimately he is interested in a career in
production and manufacturing management,
system design and optimization, and logistics.
Christian Mannino joined the MMM
program on a Fulbright Scholarship. He
graduated from Cooper Union with a B.Eng.
(Mechanical) summa cum laude. He worked for
Info Resource of the Consolidated Edison
Company of New York. His accomplishments
included the installation of digital subscriber line
technology in remote company substation
locations, documentation of the substation
computer networking infrastructure and the
deployment of an electronic security badge
system. Christian’s pastimes include playing the
baritone horn, racquetball and model building.
His career interests revolve around product
development with industrial designers in
producing consumer goods, or else participating
in design teams on the commercialization of
emerging technology like fuel cells and other
environmentally-friendly technologies.
Angela Occhionero graduated from
McGill University with a B.Sc. in Physiology
and Philosophy. She has worked extensively at
the Joseph E. Seagram Company as a
Microbiologist, Rum Blender and Quality
Assurance Specialist. Angela helped oversee a
sensory accreditation program for the employees
in quality assurance. She reorganized the
customer complaint procedure to become more
oriented towards solving the root problem and
created a database of all customer complaints.
She also produced a catalogue of finished
product defects using a digital camera. This
catalogue is presently being used in the training
of new sales and marketing representatives. In
her free time, Angela enjoys a variety of sports
as well as reading and crosswords. Her career
interests center around the quality aspects of
manufacturing.
Andrei Riabov completed a Bachelor of
Science in Mechanical Engineering at Peoples’
Friendship University in Moscow. He also holds
a diploma as English-Russian interpreter.
Originally he worked as a Process Engineer for
Tetra Pak where he designed 35 filling and 10
processing lines. At Diverseylever, as Project
Manager he sold and installed the equipment and
