AIRCOM IP Network Service elements
SITA’s AIRCOM IP network services integrate intelligent network technology to optimize the use of available aircraft/ground
links and infrastructure.
AIRCOM IP VPAN service: secure Virtual Private Aircraft Networks connecting new generation aircraft avionics with
corresponding ground systems, managed by airlines via an AIRCOM IP Portal. Essential to managing the shared use of
communications infrastructure by aircraft belonging to different airlines, as well as by ground staff and passengers.
AIRCOM SwiftBroadband: provides satellite-based broadband communications for all phases of flight. AIRCOM
SwiftBroadband will provide 100 times more capacity than the ‘classic’ Inmarsat satellite link currently used for ACARS, and
is primarily intended for exchanging information in-flight which cannot be cost-efficiently transmitted over ACARS, or which
is deemed too critical or time-sensitive to be delayed until the aircraft is on the ground.
Using the Inmarsat 4th-generation satellite SwiftBroadband service, AIRCOM SwiftBroadband will leverage the same link
used by SITA’s passenger communications subsidiary OnAir.
AIRCOM AirportLink: ideally suited to transferring large volumes of less time-critical data during aircraft turnarounds and
layovers. AIRCOM AirportLink will offer airport terminal connectivity using commercial wireless technologies (such as cellular
mobile, Wi-Fi and WiMAX) adapted to support aircraft communications. The first wave of AIRCOM AirportLink services will
be the Wi-Fi-based AIRCOM GateLink services.
