On Friday, December 13th, twenty-one new (and current)
SPEEA Council members, plus some alternates, received
extensive training for their roles as SPEEA policymakers
and workplace representatives.
This workshop is highly-rated by the Council Reps, who say that it
equips them to do a better job for the members.
The eight-hour training, conducted by Staff members Maria
Nelson, Mark Moshay, Jim Singletary, Dick Goyt and Rich
Plunkett, included:
• Roles & Responsibilities
o Basics of Labor Law
o The Right to Union Representation
o Duty of Fair Representation
o Grievance Process
• Contract Familiarization
• Security & EEO Interviews
• Seven Standards of Just Cause
• Attendance & Conduct Discipline
• Notice of Remedial Action (NORA)
A new manual was prepared for the training, and copies provided
to all who attended.

Article 20 of the newly-ratified SPEEA/Boeing
contract brings together two important joint
programs, the Ed Wells Initiative and the
Working Together Partnership.
We welcome this opportunity and now begin a process to
define our strategic direction, develop a transition plan, and
put this new joint program into operation.
The objectives of the Ed Wells Initiative remain the same.
We continue to focus on improving the application of
