MCTOW
Maximum certificated take-off weight. The
weight identified in the type
certificate.
MEL
Minimum Equipment List. A document
approved by Transport Canada
under subsection 605.07(3) that
authorizes inoperative equipment, or
equipment that must be working.
MF area
The surface area and airspace near
an uncontrolled aerodrome to which
a mandatory frequency has been
assigned, about which the reporting
procedures in Division V of Subpart
2 of Part VI are applicable, and
identified in the Canada Air Pilot or
the Canada Flight Supplement.
MDA
Minimum Descent Altitude. The altitude
ASL in the Canada Air Pilot, or route
and approach inventory, for a nonprecision
approach, below which
descent must not be made until
visual reference to continue has been
established.
minimum enroute altitude
The lowest altitude ASL in the
Designated Airspace Handbook for an
area, or between fixes on airways or
air routes, that assures acceptable
navigational signal coverage and
meets obstruction clearance criteria.
minimum flight crew document
One issued by Transport Canada,
the Government of the United
States or an aircraft manufacturer,
that relates to an aircraft and that
specifies the number of pilots to
operate it, but does not include an
air operator certificate.
minimum rest period
A period during which a crew
member is free from all duties, is not
interrupted by the operator, and can
obtain at least eight consecutive
hours of sleep in suitable
accommodation, time to travel to
and from that accommodation and
time for personal hygiene and meals.

model aircraft
One with a total weight under 35 kg
(77.2 lbs), mechanically driven or
launched into flight for recreational
purposes, not designed to carry
people or other living creatures.
model rocket
One with model rocket engines that
will not generate a total impulse over
80 newton-seconds, under 500kg
and with a parachute or other device
capable of retarding its descent.
movement area
Part of an aerodrome for the surface
