cards, brace position (when to

Documents & Records
The stuff listed below should be
carried on all flights (all described
below):
·  Certificate of Airworthiness
·  Certificate of Registration
·  Radio Station Licence
·  Operator Manual (i.e. flight
manual)
·  Weight and Balance report,
which may be in the Flight
Manual
·  Journey Log (but see below)
·  Intercept Orders (see below)
·  Licences of flight crew, to
include radio and medical
certificates
You can remember the above with
the acronym ARROWJIL, made up
from the bold letters.
Flight Authority - 507
All Canadian aircraft and those
operated in Canadian airspace, other
than ultra-lights and hang gliders,
must have a document that says they
are fit for flight.
Unless surrendered, suspended or
cancelled, such a flight authority
remains in force for the time or
number of flights specified, or
indefinitely, if the aircraft continues
to meet the conditions under which
the authority was issued.
Certificate of Airworthiness
Issued at the beginning of an
aircraft’s service, and remains valid
by proper loading, obeying the flight
manual, completing all scheduled
maintenance, completing the AAIR
(see below), complying with all ADs,
performing proper daily checks as
per the flight manual and having all
no-go defects rectified before flight.
Items to be checked regarding the
certificate before flight include
making sure the nationality and
registration match, as does the type
designation and serial number, the
date of issue (if more than a year
ago, check the AAIR is present), the
signature and seal. Otherwise, refer
to Section 507.06.
A Special C of A is for amateur-built
aircraft.
Flight Permit
These are required to fly in situations
where the aircraft is still safe, but
there is no C of A, or it has become
invalid, such as when a maintenance
check runs out away from base and
you have to get the machine home
(if you are already on your way back,
but are delayed through weather or
ATC, you may complete the flight if
the check runs out during it, but you
should have planned things properly
in the first place).
A specific-purpose flight permit
need not be carried in Canadian
airspace, if an entry is made in the
journey log indicating the details.
Neither does a flight permit need to
be carried on a balloon if you can lay
your hands on it before and after the
flight.
Refer to Section 507.06, or Chapter
507 of the Airworthiness Manual.

Annual Airworthiness Information
Report
An AAIR keeps the C of A valid (see
above) and must be submitted
annually by the owner of a Canadian
aircraft (except ultra-lights), under
Chapter 501 of the Airworthiness
Manual, unless it is out of service, no
later than the anniversary of when
the flight authority was issued, unless
agreed otherwise. The pink copy
stays with the flight authority.
Its purpose is to collect data and
satisfy the reporting requirement of
the annual inspection procedure.
Radio Station Licence
This is automatically renewed each
year, as long as the fee is paid.
Certificate of Registration
All aircraft operating in Canada,
except hang gliders or parachutes,
must be registered, either in Canada,
or a contracting or foreign state. For
