(1)
Remove all caps from the fuel pump (11).

(2)
Lubricate the applicable packings with petrolatum:
(a)
If you install the fuel pump unit (11 and 6) with a new FMU (6), lubricate the packings (38 and 53).
(b)
If you install the fuel pump unit (11 and 6) with a new fuel pump (11), lubricate the packings (58 and 59).
(c)
If you install a new fuel pump (11), lubricate the applicable packings (31, or 61).

Do the steps that follow when you install the fuel pump unit (11 and 6) with a new FMU (6):
(a)
Install the new packing (53) on the adapter (54).
(b)
Lubricate the threads of two bolts (55) with engine oil.
(c)
Install the adapter (54) on the FMU (6) with two inboard bolts (55).
(d)
Tighten the bolts (55) with your hand.
(e)
Install the new packing (38) on the adapter (39).
(f)
Lubricate the threads of the adapter (39) with engine oil.
(g)
Install the adapter (39) in the FMU (6).
(h)
Tighten the adapter to 200-225 pound-inches (22.6-25.4 newton-meters).

Do the steps that follow when you install a new fuel pump (11):
(a)
If you will install the fuel pump unit (11 and 6), install the FMU (6) on the fuel pump: 1) Install the new packings (58 and 59) on the transfer tubes
of the fuel pump (11).

2) Lubricate the studs on the FMU (6) with engine oil. 3) Install the FMU (6) on the fuel pump (11) with the washers (48) and nuts (47).
NOTE: Make sure you align the transfer tubes on the fuel

pump with the ports on the FMU.
4) Tighten the nuts (47) to 275-300 pound-inches (22.6-33.9 newton-meters).
(b)
Install the plug (62) in the fuel pump (11): 1) Install the new packing (61) on the plug (62). 2) Lubricate the threads of the plug (62) with engine oil. 3) Install the plug (62) in the fuel pump (11). 4) Tighten the plug to 110-120 pound-inches (12.4-13.6
newton-meters).
5) Install the lockwire on the plug (62).
(c)
ENGINES PRE-PW-SB 73-161; Install the differential pressure switch S1585 (50) for the fuel filter on the fuel pump (11): 1) Lubricate the two packings (49) with the petrolatum. 2) Lubricate the threads of the bolts (51) with engine oil. 3) Install the differential pressure switch (50) and the
bracket (63) on the fuel pump (11) with the bolts (51), two washers (52), and packings (49).
NOTE: Install two bolts (51) and two washers (52) at the
____ opposite location where you will install the bracket (63) and packings (49).
4) Tighten the bolts (51) with your hand.
(d) ENGINES PRE-PW-SB 73-161; Install the thermocouple probe (67) for the EEC fuel temperature on the fuel pump (11): 1) Lubricate the new packing (68) with the petrolatum.

newton-meters). 5) Install the lockwire or safety cable and safety cable ferrule from the adapter (69) to the housing. 6) Lubricate the threads of the thermocouple probe (67) with
engine oil. 7) Install the thermocouple probe (67) in the adapter (69). 8) Turn the thermocouple probe (67) until the two larger studs
