FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
_______
A. The fuel distribution system supplies metered fuel to the fuel injectors in the engine combustion chamber. The fuel distribution system also supplies engine oil and IDG oil cooling.
B. The major components of the fuel distribution system include the fuel pump, fuel bypass valve, fuel distribution valve, and fuel injectors.
2. Fuel Pump (Fig. 1)

A. The fuel pump is installed on the forward face of the main gearbox at the 4 o'clock position. The splined input shaft of the fuel pump engages the main gearbox which moves the centrifugal boost stage and the positive displacement main stage.
B. The fuel pump contains a 40 micron disposable filter, filter bypass valve, and a main stage pressure relief valve. The fuel pump also contains filter bypass warning and intermediate stage pressure, main stage pressure, and temperature indicating.
C. If there is a clogged filter, the filter bypass valve will open when the differential pressure across the filter is 9.0 psid (62.0 kPad). The fuel will then bypass the filter. A differential pressure switch for the fuel pump gives an EICAS status message before filter bypass occurs (AMM 73-31-00).
