A. Components of the Electronic Instrument System (EIS)
(1) The EIS includes the following components:
(a)
2 DUs housed in racks on the Captain's main instrument panel (CAPT PFD DU and ND DU),
(b)
2 DUs housed in racks on the First Officer's main instrument panel (F/O PFD DU and ND DU),
(c)
2 DUs housed in racks on the center instrument panel (EWD DU and SD DU),
(d)
3 DMCs located in the avionics compartment,
(e)
1 source SWITCHING panel, located on the center pedestal, next to the ECAM CONTROL panel for reconfiguration purpose in case of:
-reconfiguration control in case of DMC failure
-ECAM/ND transfer in case of EWD DU or SD DU failure. (Ref. Fig. 004, 005, 006)
(f) 3 control knobs, located on either side of the glareshield (extremely left and right) for:
-PFD/ND transfer in case of PFD DU failure,
-
the PFD brightness control,
-
the ND brightness control.
(g)
2 EFIS control panels (L and R part of the FCU), including the controls associated with the CAPT and the F/O PFD and ND,
(h)
The ECAM CONTROL Panel located on the pedestal including:
-
the UPPER Display controls such as CLR, STS, UPPER DISPLAY brightnes control potentiometer
-
the LOWER Display controls such as ENG, BLEED, PRESS... Pages, LOWER DISPLAY brightness control potentiometer.
NOTE : The potentiometer associated to each DU enables the crew
____ to switch on/off the related DU and to globally adjust the brightness. The ND outer potentiometer is dedicated to the brightness adjustment of the weather radar image.

B. Components Associated with the Electronic Instrument System (EIS)
(1) The components associated with the EIS are:

The Flight Control Unit (FCU) which includes the CAPT EFIS control panel and the F/O EFIS control panel. The FCU is part of the Automatic Flight System (AFS). (For further details, Ref. to 22-81-00).

The ECAM control panel which includes the controls for system page selection as well as the UPPER DISPLAY and LOWER DISPLAY control/brightness potentiometers. The ECAM Control Panel is part of the Flight Warning System. (For further details, Ref. to 31-50-00).
