Clean external surfaces around filter head and bowl.

Remove the filter bowl and element from the return filter.
(a) Remove the filter bowl.
NOTE: The filter bowl is removed by turning it
____ counterclockwise. Use a 3/4-inch wrench if necessary.
(b)
Remove the filter element from the bowl. 1) Discard the element and the packing.
(c)
Remove the packing from the bowl cavity in the filter head. 1) Discard the packing.

(7) Visually examine all parts (threads, seal surfaces, etc.) for damage or contaminants.
(a)
Replace all parts that are cracked, have damaged threads, and/or have damaged seal surfaces.
(b)
Clean all parts found to have contamination with Varsol. Use a brush to remove foreign matter.
(c)
Air dry parts in clean air.

Install protection plugs into the bowl cavity in the filter head.

Install protection cap into the filter bowl.

Put parts in clean containers for protection (when installation of the parts will not be immediately done).

CAUTION:_______ASSEMBLE PARTS IN A CLEAN AREA. MAKE SURE ALL DISASSEMBLED PARTS ARE PROTECTED FROM DAMAGE AND CONTAMINATION. CONTAMINATION CAN CAUSE THE FILTER TO OPERATE INCORRECTLY AFTER IT IS ASSEMBLED.

Lubricate the new packings, component threads, and seal surfaces with a thin layer of hydraulic fluid.

Install the filter element in the filter bowl:
(a) Make sure packing (3) is installed in the new filter element (4).
NOTE: Packing (3) is supplied with the new filter element.
