THRUST REVERSER CASCADE VANE SEGMENTS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
____________________________________________________________
1. General
_______
A. The cascade vane segments are aligned on the perimeter of the thrust reverser to point the fan flow forward and away from the airplane body. There is a limit to the interchangeable cascade vane segments. The configuration of the cascade vane segments is different between the engines installed on the left or right side of the airplane.
B. Some cascade vane segments are installed behind the hydraulic actuators. If you cannot get access to a cascade vane segment, you must remove the components that follow: the adjacent cascade vane segment, the access panel for the hydraulic actuator, and the rod end of the hydraulic actuator from the thrust reverser sleeve.
C. You cannot operate the engines in reverse thrust for ground maintenance if all of the cascade vane segments are not there.
D. You can operate the engines in forward thrust for ground maintenance only if you have the conditions that follow:
(1)
Deactivation of the thrust reverser for ground maintenance.
(2)
Not more than three cascade vane segments which are not there on each thrust reverser half.
(3)
No two adjacent cascade vane segments which are not there on each thrust reverser half.
(4)
The top and bottom cascade vane segments nearest the top and bottom of each thrust reverser half must be installed.
E.
Do not lift or move the thrust reverser halves unless a minimum of three cascade vane segments are installed. The three cascade vane segments must have equal distance between them on each thrust reverser half with no more than two adjacent open spaces.
