 A.  This procedure gives the instructions to remove and install the solenoid for the directional control valve (DCV). The DCV is installed below the forward fairing of the applicable strut. You can get access to the DCV through the TAI access panel.

Remove the Directional Control Solenoid (Fig. 401)

 WARNING: DO THE SPOILER/SPEEDBRAKE DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE OR MOVE ALL
_______ PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT AWAY FROM THE SPOILER/SPEEDBRAKE. THE SPOILER/SPEEDBRAKE CAN MOVE QUICKLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  
Do the deactivation procedure for the spoiler/speedbrake control system when you move the forward or reverse thrust levers (Ref 27-62-00/501).

Make sure the forward thrust levers are in the idle position.

 (a)  Attach the DO-NOT-OPERATE tag to the forward thrust levers.

 (3) Make sure the reverse thrust levers are in the stow position.
 (a)  Attach the DO-NOT-OPERATE tag to the forward thrust levers.

 WARNING: DO THE THRUST REVERSER DEACTIVATION PROCEDURE TO PREVENT THE
_______ OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER. THE ACCIDENTAL OPERATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Do this procedure: Thrust Reverser Deactivation for Ground Maintenance (Ref 78-31-00/201).

Remove the applicable TAI access panel.

Disconnect the electrical connector on the aft face of the directional control valve.

 CAUTION:_______DO NOT LET THE HYDRAULIC FLUID FALL ON THE ENGINE. CATCH THE HYDRAULIC FLUID IN A CONTAINER. QUICKLY CLEAN THE HYDRAULIC FLUID THAT FALLS ON THE ENGINE OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
 (7)  
Remove the four bolts which attach the directional control solenoid to the directional control valve.

Remove the directional control solenoid.

 (a)  Discard the packing.
