Recommendation 4.8.4 Feedback process
The EUROCONTROL AIS AGORA ‘Voicing Problems - Sharing Solutions’ is an informal online forum established to improve communication amongst all aeronautical information stakeholders. It is recognized globally and has more than 1800 registered members (end Jan. 2004). http://www.eurocontrol.int/aisagora
Recommendation 4.8.5 Ergonomics of Map and Charts
◆
The Aeronautical Charting Task Force (ACTF) is in the progress of completing guidelines (expected end 2004) concerning VFR charting in general. These will encompass aerodrome maps/charts.
◆
To enhance the ergonomics of maps/charts ICAO will need to rewrite Annex 4 in order to reflect most recent user needs and technical developments. The EUROCONTROL AIM domain will actively support this activity as the 11th Air Navigation Conference (Sep 2003) invited ICAO to undertake this task. Note: Timing is dependent on the ICAO update cycles (estimated not before 2007). In addition EUROCONTROL and the FAA National Aeronautical Charting organisation (NACO) have (informally) agreed to develop a draft chapter on the requirements for graphical systems for inclusion into the Annex 4.
Recommendation 4.8.6 Electronic Exchange
The Aeronautical Information Exchange Model (AIXM) provides the standard structures according to which aeronautical information/data can be exchanged between (heterogeneous) database systems. The EAD (static database) has been developed based on the AIXM Structure.
Data Accuracy & Integrity
The data origination chain involves a series of actors "long before AIS" performs its publication tasks. Though the EAD improves "the AIS part" of the overall data process, the main problem of the data chain is that there are multiple transaction points between the various actors. Working closely with the Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) Domain and the Navigation (NAV) Domain, the EUROCONTROL Regulatory Unit (RU) launched an Advanced EUROCONTROL Notice of Proposed Rule-Making (A-ENPRM) mid 2003 on a proposed regulatory approach to achieve enhanced data accuracy and integrity.
