The critical importance of the availability of relevant, accurate and current aeronautical information on the flight deck, in the air traf-fic control tower and to those manoeuvring on the airports surface is fully acknowledged. This appendix provides guidance to achieve this objective.
The following additional material complements the ICAO provisions for the recommendations 4.8.2 - 4.8.4 and 4.8.6 found in the European Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Incursions.
Recommendation 4.8.1 Significant aerodrome information
Significant aerodrome information shall be provided to pilots ‘real-time’ through the Flight Information Service (FIS) using radio
communication. All other relevant services who obtain knowledge of conditions which may affect operations on or near the runway
shall inform the FIS accordingly.

In mid 2003, the Agency has implemented the EAD. The EAD supports the enhancement of operational safety by ensuring the quality of aeronautical information and by facilitating its timely and efficient (electronic) distribution through automation, harmonization and centralization of the relevant data. The EAD is the reference database for aeronautical information in the "European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC)" Area.
