4. Gain access to the Main Equipment Center shelves as necessary.
5. Gain access to the Electrical/Electronic Major Routing Pathways as necessary.
6. Obtain LRU.s, Software, Test Equipment, and Engineering installation parts as required.
3.1 Aircraft Modification (Group I only)
1. Refer to Boeing 757 Maintenance Manual chapter 31-31-03, page 401, FLIGHT DATA
ACQUISITION UNIT . REMOVAL/INSTALLATION. The DFDAU is located in the main
equipment center on shelf E3-3.
2. Open these circuit breakers and attach .DO NOT CLOSE. tags on the P11 panel:
J7 FLIGHT RECORDER AC
J8 FLIGHT RECORDER DC
S1 AIDS SENSOR

3. Remove existing DFDAU, M138, and return to stores.
4. Install new FDAMS (DFDAU) unit in tray space created in step 3.
5. Remove .DO NOT CLOSE. tags and close the following Circuit breakers on the P11 panel:
J7 FLIGHT RECORDER AC
J8 FLIGHT RECORDER DC
S1 AIDS SENSOR
6. Put the airplane to its usual condition.
3.2 Aircraft Modification (Group II only)
1. Refer to Boeing 757 Maintenance Manual chapter 31-31-03, page 401, FLIGHT DATA
ACQUISITION UNIT . REMOVAL/INSTALLATION. The DFDAU is located in the main
equipment center on shelf E3-3.
2. Open these circuit breakers and attach .DO NOT CLOSE. tags on the P11 panel:
J7 FLIGHT RECORDER AC
J8 FLIGHT RECORDER DC
S1 AIDS SENSOR
3. Remove existing DFDAU, M138, and return to stores.
4. Gain access to the A/C IDENT SHORTING RCPT, M976 and mating connector D749 on the
E3-3 shelf behind the DFDAU.
5. At connector D749, extract contact at pin 11 for wire W1439-0111-24 and stow using heat
shrink tubing per Boeing chapter 20. Reference 756-0074-601, sheet 6 as required.
6. At connector D749, locate W1439-0107-24 and using contact (section 2.1, table II), terminate at
D749, pin 7. Reference 756-0074-601, sheet 6 as required.
7. Install new FDAMS (DFDAU) unit in tray space created in step 3.
8. Conduct any testing necessary to confirm proper operation of any disturbed system.
9. Remove .DO NOT CLOSE. tags and close the following Circuit breakers on the P11 panel:
J7 FLIGHT RECORDER AC
J8 FLIGHT RECORDER DC
S1 AIDS SENSOR
10. Put the airplane to its usual condition.
3.3 Aircraft Modification (Group III only)
1. Refer to Boeing 757 Maintenance Manual chapter 31-31-03, page 401, FLIGHT DATA
ACQUISITION UNIT . REMOVAL/INSTALLATION. The DFDAU is located in the main
equipment center on shelf E3-3.
2. Open these circuit breakers and attach .DO NOT CLOSE. tags on the P11 panel:
J7 FLIGHT RECORDER AC
J8 FLIGHT RECORDER DC
S1 AIDS SENSOR
3. Remove existing DFDAU, M138, and return to stores.
4. Gain access to the A/C IDENT SHORTING RCPT, M976 and mating connector D749 on the
E3-3 shelf behind the DFDAU.

5. At connector D749, locate W1439-0116-24 and using contact (section 2.1, table II), terminate at
D749, pin 16. Reference 756-0074-601, sheet 5 as required.
6. Install new FDAMS (DFDAU) unit in tray space created in step 3.
7. Conduct any testing necessary to confirm proper operation of any disturbed system.
8. Remove .DO NOT CLOSE. tags and close the following Circuit breakers on the P11 panel:
J7 FLIGHT RECORDER AC
J8 FLIGHT RECORDER DC
S1 AIDS SENSOR
9. Put the airplane to its usual condition.
3.4 Verify Proper Database Load
1. Insure the following Circuit breakers on the P11 panel are closed:
J7 FLIGHT RECORDER AC
J8 FLIGHT RECORDER DC
S1 AIDS SENSOR
Wait approximately 1 minute after circuit breaker is closed before proceding to the next step.
2. On the front panel of the FDAMS unit, toggle switch to the right. Front panel LED display
should scroll to the left and read .DFDAU MANDATORY DB 998-2512-503/429
BROADCAST DB 998-3407-501..
3. Toggle switch to the right again. Front panel LED display should scroll to the left and
read .FMC EPROM BOOT/SYSTEM 998-2077- 5XX/AIC EPROM BOOT/SYSTEM
998-2076-5XX/ACTIVE DFDAU DB 998-2678-502/ACTIVE BC429 DB 998-3406-501/.. If
.UNAVAILABLE. is displayed for any part number repeat beginning at step 3.4.2.
The FMC, AIC, and SYSTEM part numbers are provided for reference only and need not be
verified to pass this step. The XX in the part numbers means don.t care. If the proper part
numbers are observed in step 3.4.2, but the .ACTIVE. database part numbers do not appear in
this step verify the Aircraft Type discretes are configured properly.
4. If the proper software part numbers are verified skip the DFDAU Database Load Procedure
