the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Computer (EGPWC). It’s located on the
E2-4 shelf.
(2) The MK V EGPWC are digitally controlled computers housed in a 2 MCU ARINC
600-6 form factor chassis intended for Air Transport type aircraft. Installation
configuration is defined by program pin strapping in the aircraft.
(3) The EGPWC receives information in AC, DC, discrete, and synchro analog formats,
and RS-232, RS-422, ARINC 429 or ARINC 575 digital formats. Discrete signals can
be either ground or +28V discretes. The EGPWC provides discrete, audio and ARINC
429 outputs for alerts and system status, and video (ARINC 453/708) for terrain
display. The EGPWC is rack mounted and does not require any forced air cooling
when operated within the normal operating temperature range (-40℃ to +70℃).
B. GND PROX TEST Switch
(1) The TEST switch is located on the P3-7 panel at the F/O’s instrument panel. It
provides a momentary ground discrete to the EGPWS to start the self-test. The self test
can be performed while airborne, or on the ground, as follows:
(a) The airborne self-test is enabled when the landing gear is up and the radio altitude
is above 1000 feet. Setting the TEST switch for less than 5 seconds starts the test
sequence.
(b) The ground self test is enabled when the radio altitude is below 30 feet. Setting
the TEST switch for less than 5 seconds starts the test sequence. A total
vocabulary test is started if the TEST switch is set for more than 5 seconds.
C. INHIBIT Switches
(1) The GND PROX FLAP INHIBIT switch is used to inhibit the Mode 4 caution message.
The switch provides an open or ground discrete to the EGPWS. Open indicates normal
flap operation; ground indicates a flap inhibit to the EGPWS. The inhibit signal is
generated by putting the switch to the “INHIBIT” position.
(2) The GND PROX GEAR INHIBIT switch is used to inhibit the Mode 4 caution message.
The switch provides an open or ground discrete to the EGPWS. Open indicates normal
gear operation; ground indicates a gear inhibit to the EGPWS. The inhibit signal is
generated by putting the switch to the “INHIBIT” position.
(3) The GND PROX TERR INHIBIT switch is used to inhibit the terrain caution message.
The switch provides an open or ground discrete to the EGPWS. Open indicates normal
terrain operation; ground indicates a terrain inhibit to the EGPWS. The inhibit signal is
generated by putting the switch to the “INHIBIT” position.
D. PULL UP Warning Light
(1) The red ground proximity warning PULL UP light is located on the Captain's instrument
panel. The light comes on when a PULL UP warning occurs.
E. WINDSHEAR Warning Light
(1) The red ground proximity warning WINDSHEAR light is located on the Captain's

instrument panel. The light comes on when a Mode 7 WINDSHEAR warning occurs.
F. GND PROX Light-G/S INHB Switch/Light
(1) The amber GND PROX Light-G/S INHB Switch/Light provides a momentary contact
to ground and an amber light. The momentary contact to ground provides the Mode 5
glideslope inhibit discrete to the EGPWS. The GND PROX light illuminates when there
is a GPWS alert condition. The mode 5 caution may be inhibited by pressing the
switch/light provided the advisory condition has not already occurred.
G. Warning Speakers
(1) The aural warning speakers are located on each side adjacent to the pilots' overhead
panel P5. The speakers come on to annunciate the GPWS warning and advisory aural
messages.
H. Weather Rader Indicator
(1) The Weather Rader Indicator is located on the center instrument panel (P9). They
display the EGPWS terrain data when you select the terrain display.
I. Terrain Display Control Panel
(1) The Terrain Display Control Panel is located on the P9 instrument panel. There is a
TERRAIN SELECT switchlight and an INOP light on the panel. When you put the WXR
switch from OFF mode to any other mode on the Weather Radar control panel, then
select the TERRAIN SELECT switchlight ON, the Weather Rader Indicator displays
terrain data. If deselect the TERRAIN SELECT switchlight ON, the Weather Rader
Indicator displays weather radar data.
J. Display Switching Unit (DSU)
(1) There is a display switching unit mounted on the E2-4 shelf. It transfers the weather
radar indicator display between weather data and terrain data. The DSU is powered by
a 28 VDC power through the EGPWS DSU circuit breaker on the P18-1 panel. And the
control discrete signals are provided by the EGPWC and EGPWS Terrain display
control panel.
