B0041 PART 121 EN ROUTE VISUAL FLIGHT RULES, LIMITATIONS, AND PROVISIONS
Except as provided in this paragraph and C0053, the certificate holder shall operate all flights,
conducted under the provisions of CCAR Part 121, within the areas listed in paragraph B0039 of
these operations specifications in accordance with instrument flight rules (IFR).
a. The certificate holder is authorized to conduct en route Class I and Class II navigation operations
under part 121 in accordance with Visual Flight Rules (VFR), provided the aircraft used are
reciprocating or turbopropeller-powered airplanes. The certificate holder shall conduct these
VFR Class I or Class II navigation operations in accordance with the provisions and limitations of
this subparagraph.
(1) All operations authorized by this subparagraph shall be conducted in accordance with the
requirements of Part 121 applicable to domestic, flag, or supplemental operations when not
specifically addressed by these operations specifications.
(2) Operations shall not be conducted under this authorization unless both the pilot-in-command
and co-pilot have satisfactorily completed an approved training program for VFR stationreferenced
Class I or Class II navigation as approved.
(3) All cruising operations en route must be conducted at flight altitudes of at least 900 meters
(3,000 feet) above the surface and less than 5400 meters (18,000 feet) MSL. The VFR
cruising altitudes in CCAR Part 91 Section 91.159 shall be used, unless otherwise directed by
ATC.
(4) The pilot-in-command must operate the flight in areas and at flight altitudes which permit VFR
station-referenced Class I navigation or Class II navigation utilizing an approved navigational
