CHECK
a. The certificate holder is authorized to conduct a pre-takeoff contamination check or use an
approved alternate procedure as described below.
(1) At any time the conditions are such that frost, ice, or snow may reasonably be expected to
adhere to the aircraft, the certificate holder will check the aircraft prior to takeoff or use an approved
alternate procedure. The check/procedure shall ensure that the wings, control surfaces, propellers,
engine inlets, and other critical surfaces are free of frost, ice, or snow.
(2) Procedures for the conduct of this check or its alternate are described or referenced in this
paragraph.
(3) In addition to the above, the pilots shall demonstrate knowledge to operate in ground icing
conditions during the initial and recurrent flight checks.

A0073 AUTHORIZATION FOR CCAR PART 135 AIRPLANE OPERATORS WITHOUT A DEICING/ANTI-ICING
PROCEDURE
a. This paragraph only apply when certificate holder does not operate in ground icing
conditions. Under the regulation, ground icing conditions exist whenever there are such that frost,
ice, or snow may reasonably be expected to adhere to the aircraft. The certificate holder who does
not operate in ground icing conditions is not required to train its pilots or develop pre-takeoff
contamination procedures.
b. If ground icing conditions do not exist at anytime during the certificate holder’s operation, the
certificate holder is authorized to operate without a ground deice/anti-icing procedure.
