COAXIAL CONNECTORS - BNC TYPE - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
_______1. General
BNC type coaxial connectors installed on aircraft have the codes that follow:
-E0460
-NSA938601
-NSA938603
R _____2. E0460
A. P/N identification
(Ref. Fig. 001)
E0460 F 02 | | | | | ---------------- Wire type code | 01 : EO293XF | | | 02 : EO406WD | | | 03 : NSA935344XE | | | 04 : EN4604-003WZ | | | --------------------- Type code | F : Right receptacle | | TC : Square flange bulkhead connector | | P : Right plug | --------------------------- Standard P/N
B. P/N characteristics
(1) Temperatures Minimum operating temperature is -65 deg.C (-85.00 deg.F). Maximum operating temperature is 165 deg.C (329.00 deg.F).
C. Connection procedure
(1) Wire stripping
(Ref. Fig. 002)
-Put the heat shrinkable sleeve then the ferrule on the wire before you strip it to prevent the deformation of the shield braid.
-Strip the wire. Make sure that you do not cut the shield braid strands or cause damage to the center conductor.

(2) Crimping procedure
(Ref. Fig. 003, 004, 005)
(a) Crimping of rear ferrule :
-Make sure that the heat shrinkable sleeve and the ferrule are in position on the wire.
-Install the cap on the braid support.
-Move the braid support below the braid.
-Install the ferrule on the braid and against the cap. Crimp with the applicable tool. Trim the braid flush with the cap.
-For E0460-P-03 only : . Install the heat shrinkable sleeve on the ferrule. . Shrink the sleeve with the applicable tool.
(b) Crimping of contact and assembly :
-
For E0460-01 and 02 only : . Install the insulating washer against the cap. . Install the contact on the wire core against the insulating washer. Crimp with the applicable tool. . Install the contact in the dielectric and install the assembly in the connector body. . Tighten cap at the applicable torque. Make a red line on the connector body and the cap to show that it is tight. . Install the heat shrinkable sleeve on the cap, on the body. Shrink the sleeve to let the red line stay apparent.
