ChartServer Goes to Work
for NOAA Delivering Millions
of ENC’s Online
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) went live with CARIS
ChartServer ENC distribution web site in March
2004.
During only a single week in March, there were
nearly 70,000 individual ENC cells downloaded
through the site.
Powered by ChartServer Internet chart distribution
system, the new NOAA ENC Download
site is a server-based system enabling webbrowsing
clients to view a catalogue of charts
and related products and download them for
free. Clients may choose to browse the catalogue
graphically or textually.
There are currently 414 ENC’s available for
download from the site and new ENC’s are
posted as they are completed. The initial focus
of the ENC program was to provide chart coverage
of the nation’s 40 major commercial port
areas; however, smaller scale coastal coverage is
now becoming available.
Managed by the NOAA Ocean Service, Office
of Coast Survey, the ENC program supports the
“E-Government” initiative to make information
easily accessible to the public.
The charts are free to the public and easily
accessible for download on the Office of Coast
Survey Web site:

Tresco Engineering Inland
Tresco Engineering has selected HOM ENC for production of Belgian and Dutch
Inland ECDIS cells. The cells, in turn, are used in Tresco Engineering’s own navigation
so􀄞ware and by other contractors.
Purchased in November 2003, Tresco Engineering has used the so􀄞ware to produce
the first Inland-ECDIS ENC’s for France (Voies Navigables de France (VNF)).
More specifically, detailed Inland ECDIS ENC’s for the river Garonne from Bordeau
to Langon were also produced for VNF at the request of Airbus. The ENC cells would
facilitate the smooth transportation of the different parts for the new Airbus 380 from
various Airbus plants for assembly in Toulouse.
Tresco Engineering is an independent Belgian company founded in 1994. They are
the manufacturers of ECDIS and Inland ECDIS so􀄞ware called NaviChart. In its nine
years, the company has been able to position itself as a market leader in the field of
river navigation in Western Europe. Visit www.tresco.be for more.
Enterprise System for Enbridge Gas
Employees, stakeholders and customers
of Enbridge Gas New Brunswick can
now access spatial information about its
operations through the Internet using
CARIS technology.
Enbridge Gas New Brunswick distributes
natural gas to communities across the
province of New Brunswick, Canada.
Using CARIS Spatial Fusion Enterprise,
CARIS’ Internet-mapping so􀄞ware,
Enbridge accesses multiple types of mapping
and corporate data from anywhere
through a common Internet browser. The
CARIS so􀄞ware combines these data
types, as they are, wherever they are, in
real-time.
Combining Enbridge data, such as
pipeline data, customer data and service
records, as well as spatial and locationbased
data including government property
information and maps, consumerspending
information, census data and
demographics creates a single information
source for improved decision-making
and customer service.
Specifically, Enbridge is applying the system
for marketing analysis, operations,
electronic mapping and as an interface
system.
