(2)
On AF, AT, GN, MD, VM airplanes, turn on LRRA system at appropriate height indicator.
(3)
Verify height indicator warning flag is out of view and that altitude pointer indicates between -3 and -11 feet.
(4)
On AF, AT, GN, MD, VM airplanes,
turn off LRRA system, if required.
(5)
Perform LRRA system operational test (Adjustment/Test section, Chapter 34-33-( )).
(6)
Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-00).

INERTIAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION______________________________________________________
1. General (Fig. 1)_______
A. The inertial navigation system (INS) automatically determines the
navigation and attitude data of the airplane to keep the airplane on a
predetermined course. External information inputs to the INS include
barometric altitude and true airspeed from the central air data computer
(CADC) and on ATLAS airplanes AF 116-150, 152-199, LH 011-030, 051-070,
082-099; AZ 221-299; MD 501-599; GN 601-699; AT 701-750; VM 751-799;
less airplanes with PMS, distance data from the DME System. On airplanes
with PMS, updated present position is received from the PMS.
*[1]
XA
XA NOTE: The DME distance data is available provided Carousel CIVA____
XA and modified ARINC 521 D or ARINC 568 DME's are installed.
XA
The INS
does not require these data inputs but without them it will operate
with degraded performance. The navigation data is displayed on flight
instruments, allowing the flight crew to fly the airplane to the INS
reference. The data is also supplied to the autopilot systems (Chapter
22), allowing the airplane to be automatically flown along the computed
course if the autopilot/flight director is operated in the INS NAV mode
with either channel A, B or C engaged.
B. On ALL ATLAS airplanes EXCEPT AF 116-150, 152-199; LH 011-030, 051-070,
082-099; AZ 221-299; MD 501-599; GN 601-699; AT 701-750; and VM 751-799,
Three Delco Carousel IV INS systems are installed in the airplane.
On AF 116-150, 152-199; LH 011-030, 051-070, 082-099; AZ 221-299;
MD 501-599; GN 601-699; AT 701-750; and VM 751-799,
Three Delco Carousel IV-A INS systems are installed in the airplane.
*[2]
XA
XA NOTE: DELCO Carousel CIV on CIVA systems are interchangeable.____
XA
XA NOTE: Mixing of CIV and CIVA is also possible, but CIVA____
XA advantages are lost (inertial-mixing, DME updating
XA possibility) when more than one CIV system is installed.
XA
C. Each INS system consists of a mode selector unit (MSU) a
control/display unit (CDU), an inertial navigation unit (INU), and a
battery unit (BU).
(1) The control/display units for INS No. 1 and 2 are located on the
forward control stand electronic panel. The CDU for INS No. 3 is
located on the aft control stand electronic panel.
(2) The mode selector units for all three systems are located on the
pilots' overhead panel.
(3) The three navigation units are located on a shelf (E2-6) in the
main equipment center.
