 B.  24-22-00, Maintenance Practices
 3.  Prepare for Test
________________
 A.  Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00).
 B.  Ensure that flight interphone system is operating correctly
 (Ref 23-51-00).

 C.  Activate MKR control on audio selector panel on aft electronics control panel, and adjust for moderate volume.
 D.  AF 121-122, 151-199; AT ALL; AZ ALL; LH ALL; GN ALL; MD ALL; SN ALL; VM ALL; Verify that MKR BCN circuit breaker on circuit breaker panel P7 is closed.
 E.  AF 101-120, 123-150; Verify that MKR BCN and MKR BCN-1 circuit breakers on panel P7 are closed.
 4.  Operational Test (AZ ALL; SN ALL; IB ALL; LH 051-070; AF 151-156, 158-159, ________________ 172-182, 185-199; GN ALL; AT ALL; MD ALL; VM ALL)
 A.  Press each marker beacon indicator on captain's and first officer's instrument panels. Check that each lamp illuminates when pressed.
 B.  Press and hold TEST button on front panel of marker beacon receiver in main equipment center (shelf E3-6).
 (1)
After approximately 4 to 5 seconds, check (on flight deck) that captain's and first officer's marker light sets illuminate sequentially (first blue, then amber and then white).

 (2)
Check for an aural signal present on audio interphone system in conjunction with illumination of each lamp color.

NOTE: A low frequency accompanies blue lamp (approximately
____ 400 Hz) ascending to approximately 1300 Hz with amber lamp and approximately 3000 Hz with white lamp.
 (3)  When test sequence has reached steady 3000-Hz tone, adjust MKR volume controls on audio selector panel from stop to stop checking for smooth continuous control of volume increasing in CW direction.
 C.  Upon completion of step B, release TEST button on receiver.
NOTE: Wait at least 5 seconds before initiating another self-test.
____
 D.  This assures integrity of all marker beacon components other than antenna system and receiver sensitivity control system.
 E.  Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-00).

 5. System Test
___________
 A. Equipment and Materials
 (1)  Marker Beacon Test Generator - IFR Model NAV-401L, Tel-Instrument Model T-30B/B, Kustom Electronics Model 140, or Dare Inc., Model MBG-1
 B. Test Marker Beacon
 (1)
AF 151-156,158-159, 172-182, 185-199; AT ALL; AZ ALL; GN ALL, LH 051-099; IB ALL; MD ALL; SN ALL; VM ALL; Perform marker beacon system operational test. Leave power on.

 (2)
AF 101-120, 123-150; Press each marker beacon indicator on captain's and first officer's instrument panels. Check that each lamp illuminates when pressed.

 (3)
Set up marker beacon test generator directly under marker beacon antenna. Extend antenna on test set to its fullest extent (position antenna as close as possible without physical contact) and align antenna along face and aft axis of airplane. Turn on test generator and allow to warm up.

 (4)
Set sensivity switch for maximum sensitivity (HIGH or BROAD).

 (5)
Set marker beacon test generator frequency to 400 Hz. Check that blue outer marker lights illuminate and that a 400-Hz tone is audible over flight interphone.

 (6)
Adjust test generator modulating frequency to 1300 Hz. Check that blue outer marker lights extinguish, amber middle marker lights illuminate, and a 1300-Hz tone is audible over flight interphone.

 (7)
Adjust test generator modulating frequency to 3000 Hz. Check that amber middle marker lights extinguish, white airways marker lights illuminate, and a 3000-Hz tone is audible over flight interphone.

 (8)
Set sensitivity switch for minimum sensitivity (LOW or SHARP) and repeat test.

 (9)
Remove electrical power if no longer required (Ref 24-22-00).
