Magnetic heading from the magnetic heading reference system is used to position the compass card through a servo drive system. On AZ 201-220; SN 301-350; IB 405; and AT ALL, a repeater synchro in the VOR/DME RMI furnishes the magnetic heading signal to the selected VOR/ILS receiver for generation of the VOR bearing signal. On AZ 221-299; SN 351-399; and IB 406-499, a repeater synchro in the ADF RMI furnishes the magnetic heading signal to the VOR/ILS receiver for generation of the VOR bearing signal.

The radio bearing display on the RMI consists of two concentrically mounted pointers: one wide and one narrow. The two pointers give radio bearing information for two VOR's with the compass card taken as reference. On each RMI, the captain's VOR bearing is displayed by the narrow pointer while the wide pointer is driven by the output of the first officer's VOR.

 (4)
When the VOR/ILS receiver is tuned to an ILS frequency, the associated RMI bearing pointer is parked at a relative bearing of 90 degrees (3 o'clock position).

 B. Horizontal Situation Indicator
 (1)
Each of the captain's and first officer's instrument panels has an horizontal situation indicator (HSI). The HSI is a multifunction display instrument receiving inputs from and providing displays for several electronic systems installed on the airplane. Additional description, operation, service, and maintenance instructions for the HSI are provided in 34-41-00, Inertial Navigation System.

 (2)
A radio or INS annunciator indicates the navigation system to which the HSI is connected. The annunciator displays a VOR/ILS indication when the VOR/ILS-INS switch is in the VOR/ILS position.

 (3)
The glide slope deviation pointer in the HSI indicates the vertical deviations of the airplane from the glide path when approaches are being made. The GS flag comes into view when glide slope data are missing or unreliable. When the VOR/ILS-INS switch is in INS position or when the VOR/ILS receiver is tuned to a VOR frequency, the glide slope warning flag and pointer are biased from view.

 (4)
The navigation warning flag comes into view in the HSI when
navigation data (VOR or INS) is missing or unreliable.

 (5)
The to-from pointer indicates the direction of the tuned VOR station If a valid VOR signal is lost or if the airplane is directly over the VOR station, the to-from pointer is masked from view.

 (6)
The course deviation bar indicates the deviation from the selected course. With the airplane on course, the course deviation bar lines up with the course arrow and tail. Either the VOR/ILS receiver or the inertial navigation system controls the course deivation bar depending upon whether the VOR/ILS-INS switch is positioned to VOR/ILS or INS.

 C. Attitude Director Indicator
 (1)  Each of the captain's and first officer's instrument panels has an attitude director indicator (ADI). The ADI is a multifunction display instrument receiving inputs from and providing displays for several electronic systems. Additional description, operation, service, and maintenance instructions for the ADI are provided in 34-41-00, Inertial Navigation System.

 (2)
Glide slope deviation is presented by the glide slope deviation pointer which moves above and below center. Similarly, the runway symbol located at the lower center of the ADI moves left and right of center to indicate localizer deviation signals.

 (3)
When VOR/ILS-INS switch is set to INS position or when the VOR/ILS receiver is tuned to a VOR frequency, the glide slope flag and pointer in the ADI are biased from view.

 12. Relays and Switches
___________________
 A.  Switching from VOR to localizer antenna, selection of VOR/ILS data from receiver 1, 2 or 3, and selection of radio (VOR/ILS) or INS navigation data at the captain's and first officer's instrument panel is accomplished by the following switches and relays:
 ITEM____
(1)  AP/FD NAV mode select
switch
(2)  On XA ALL EXCEPT AT
 airplanes,
 captain's VOR/ILS transfer
switch and captain's and
first officer's VOR/ILS A
and B transfer relays
