Use the solvent and a wiping cloth to clean the surface of the insulation/covering where new tape will be installed.

Replace the Tape

(1)
Install new cargo liner joint sealing tape (BMS 5-146) to completely cover all of the insulation/covering as shown in Figure 204.
(a)
Use a continuous strip of tape to wrap around the insulation/covering and the duct.
(b)
Make sure the new tape overlaps the edges of the adjacent tape by a minimum of 1/8-inch.
(c)
Make sure the new tape overlaps onto the ends of the duct by a minimum of 1-inch.

Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition
(1)
Reinstall the duct (if removed).

Replace the panels or other airplane structure removed to gain access to the duct joint.

15. Insulation Repair - Duct with Fiberglass Insulation and Flame-Resistant

A. General
(1)
This procedure gives instructions to repair cuts or tears in the insulation on air conditioning ducts with fiberglass insulation (BMS 8-48) with flame-resistant covering (BMS 8-142) that has been wrapped with cargo liner joint sealing tape (BMS 5-146).

Tape - Cargo Liner Joint Sealing (BMS 5-146, Type I) (AMM 20-30-07/201)
(2)
Solvent - B01011, Series 91 - commercially available (AMM 20-30-91/201)

Wiping cloth, lint free - commercially available

Prepare for the Repair

(1) Release the pressure from the pneumatic system (AMM 36-00-00/201).
NOTE: This will make sure that there is no airflow in the ducts

when you do the repair.

On the bleed air control module on the pilots' overhead panel, P5, put the pack control switches in the OFF position.

Remove the applicable ceiling, sidewall, or floor panels to gain access to the damaged air conditioning duct joint.
(4)
Remove the duct if needed for better access.

Use the solvent and a wiping cloth to clean the surface of the insulation/covering around the damaged area.

Repair the Insulation

(1)
Apply a minimum 2-inch wide patch of cargo liner joint sealing tape (BMS 5-146) to completely cover the damaged area on the insulation/covering.
