FOR INSULATION DAMAGE APPLY A MINIMUM 2-INCH X 2-INCH PATCH OF PRESSURE SENSITIVE ADHESIVE TAPE TO THE DAMAGED AREA. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FULL COVERAGE OF THE DAMAGED OR TORN AREA WITH NO LESS THAN 1/2-INCH OVERLAP.

Prepare for the Repair

(1) Release the pressure from the pneumatic system (AMM 36-00-00/201).
NOTE: This will make sure that there is no airflow in the ducts

On the bleed air control module on the pilots' overhead panel, P5, put the pack control switches in the OFF position.

Remove the applicable ceiling, sidewall, or floor panels to gain access to the damaged air conditioning duct joint.

Remove the duct if needed for better access.

Remove all loose or old tape from the insulation.

Use the solvent and a wiping cloth to clean the surface of the insulation where new adhesive tape will be installed.

Replace the Tape

Install new adhesive tape (BMS 5-149) to the insulation as shown in Figure 203.

Make sure the adhesive tape overlaps all the edges and seams of the insulation by a minimum of 1-inch.
F.
Put the Airplane Back to Its Usual Condition
(1)
Reinstall the duct (if removed).

12. Insulation Repair - Duct with Polyimide Foam Insulation (Fig. 203)

A. General
(1)
This procedure gives instructions to repair cuts or tears in the insulation on air conditioning ducts with Polyimide foam insulation (BMS 8-300).

Consumable Materials ú (1) Tape - Pressure sensitive adhesive (BMS5-149, Type XI, Class 1, ú Grade C) (AMM 20-30-07/201) ú ú NOTE:____Do not use the BMS 5-149 tape made by the Orcon Corporation ú with the BMS 8-300 polyimide foam insulation material. Only ú the BMS 5-149 tape made by E&H Laminating & Slitting Company ú is compatible with the BMS 8-300 polyimide foam insulation ú material. ú
